Pattern Another Angry August: Broiled, Baked, and Bone-Dry

There is a water rescue ongoing in small town of Spring Hope in Nash Co. An officer and 2 occupants of the vehicle were swept away, officer has made it to safety and water rescue teams were searching for the other 2. Not sure of any updates. Rainfall estimates approaching 8" and still pouring there

School starting back in early August should be made illegal. What kind of summer vacation ends in the middle of summer? Summer school vacations aren’t like they used to be. Thank goodness I’m not currently in school! I couldn’t handle this nonsense. I’d have to play hooky for most of August!
We were mostly all little robots that did what we were told to do, including staying home. I remember having those rolling Florida windows in my high school, and they were angled at best, so no breeze got thru, and the teacher had a fan on a stand and had it blowing on her, and it being over 100 outside. Torture for the tikes, and I won't mention why I was in school in July, lol.

I want to say thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers concerning the passing of my father. The funeral went well despite the persistent rain that blanketed the area today. We had to move the graveside portion of the funeral inside the cemetery chapel. It was a military funeral but there was no twenty-one gun salute since it had to be moved indoors. At my residence not far from Lake Wheeler we have received 2.95 inches of rain since midnight.

The 2 individuals swept away by flood waters have died, very sad.

The rain Central North Carolina is getting fits my mood perfectly today. My father lost his battle against Alzheimer's disease this past Friday and his funeral is today. He was the most patient man I ever knew and I couldn't have asked for a more loving or caring father. Please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers today.
Really sorry to hear that. My dad has it now, and he has gone downhill every time I see him. It is a sad disease. We will keep you guys in our prayers for sure.

A small thunderstorm has just popped up overhead this evening. I can’t tell if this is likely going to amount to much. I heard one clap of thunder. My temp is 80.

Edit 8:25PM: That cell amounted to about nothing. However, it suddenly started raining heavily at 8:20 PM soon after a new 75 mile long SW to NE line of very heavy showers had just popped up with my area on the NE edge. It’s pouring!

Edit: It poured for only a short period the evening of August 6th. Thus, I ended up with only ~.0.25” for the day, putting me at 5.25” for 8/1-6!

Lost our mom to dementia last Febuary. Sorry to hear about your dad and anyone else's family that's affected by it. It's a brutal disease

GSO sitting at -9.2 BN for August so far. MBY is closing in on the August total monthly rainfall avg as well, already.
I had GSO at -3 BN and above on qpf. Looking like I'm gonna wish I had put a -6 or -7. We will see.

My prayers are with all you having parent gone or going through Alzheimer's. Went through that with Mom. I bet close to 50% of us on here, in our circle of friends etc, have or will have an immediate family member fall victim to this disease.
Has to be for the 50 year old crowd and up, that high a ratio. I see it with old college, HS friends, church friends, work etc.

77 at JZI at 2pm on August 7. And no rain around. Pretty crazy. This is more like a late September/early October pattern and we’re getting it the first week of August. I don’t think it’s hit 90 all this month yet

Euro keeps temps in the mid 80's next week imby with the majority of the heat focused out west and we start dropping into the 70's by the end of the run. Hopefully that continues and we truly have seen the worst of summer and true fall coming after the next 2 weeks as we go into week 4 of August.

Yeah, I'm really, really hoping the Euro wins here on temps projected.

It has it warming up, but it tops out at 90 max for even down here which is fine compared to the endless heat dome.

I can remember that June didn't start getting bad until late in the month, maybe just maybe....knock on wood, we've for the most part seen the worst in about a 6 week period.

Since Wednesday at midnight, my residence has received 3.86 inches of rain as of 6:00 PM today. There is surprisingly little standing water in my yard and neighborhood but I think that might be because most of the precipitation fell at light to moderate rates. I wish we could get a two day precipitation pattern like this with temperatures cold enough for snow during winter.

Next week will be a return to more normal conditions for August but not to the excessive temperatures that we saw at times in July. I hope the 100 degree readings are done for this year with daylight becoming more scarce as time goes by on the calendar.

KRDU has recorded its 2nd coolest August to date so far this month. To illustrate how warm this summer has been at KRDU, it still ranks as the 4th all time warmest even with the abnormally cool temperatures we have had so far in August.

I doubt most areas will even reach 95 again the rest of this summer.

Just gotta say, I am absolutely LOVING this week's weather. I know the pain returns next week, but dang.. this is such a nice reprieve from that horrible several-week long ridge
Good news is after a return of the heat next week we may have another nice cool down the week after. I think this is 7pm

If someone could offer me these first 12 or so days of August to have for August every year, I'd sign before they finished speaking!

More heavy rain falling again from a band of showers moving SW.

After this, I got several more rounds of rain through the evening of 7/8 adding to that gotten yesterday afternoon adding up to a total of ~1.3”. After emptying that, I then through the early morning hours (7/9) received heavy showers coming off the ocean with the heaviest 5-5:30AM. I estimate 2” from the late night through now (7:40AM) with light rain still falling. All of this is on top of the 6” I got Aug 1-6! So, I’m at ~9.3” Aug 1 through 7:40AM of Aug 9!

My water table is ridiculously high. Fortunately though due to the rains being spread out enough, I’ve yet to have any garage flooding this month despite heavy puddling of rain sitting just outside the garage. However, more heavy rains are possible over the next few days.

Not one but two flash flood warnings were up for the county since late afternoon yesterday (8/8)!

Although it's going to warm up next week, the heat will be nothing out of the ordinary for August and after that there will be pleasant weather by August standards to look forward to. After what was a miserable July temperature wise, it looks like we will dodge a bullet for most of August unless something tropical in nature comes a calling.
