I'm assuming it's school starting more than anything

Heck we all know it's gonna be hot enough into September 🤣 🤣

The dates were preannounced before the summer started yeah

School starting back in early August should be made illegal. What kind of summer vacation ends in the middle of summer? Summer school vacations aren’t like they used to be. Thank goodness I’m not currently in school! I couldn’t handle this nonsense. I’d have to play hooky for most of August!

The ironic part is I've heard places in Alabama Georgia are starting earlier than we are or already have. Still got 2 weeks here

We always started in mid August when I was a kid

The earliest I ever started was during just the last few days of August. Sometimes it didn’t start til the day after Labor Day. Back in the day, we used to have nearly 3 month true meteorological summer vacations and us kids loved it that way!

Not a lot of rain at my location from the late afternoon severe thunderstorm. It was likely near 1/3”….will check. But even that gets me to nearly 5” for Aug 1-5! The lightning was frequent and the winds were gusty. Other parts of the county, mainly NW, had flooding, damaging winds (60 mph at KSAV), and even pea sized hail!

Edit: I ended up with ~0.4” from this severe thunderstorm on Aug 5, which brings my Aug 1-5 rainfall up to a whopping 5”!

We used to start school in Georgia the Tuesday after Labor day and get out the first or second week in June. They changed around 7os. When I started working in the schools in 79 there were people who refused to show up until then even though school had been in session for a couple of weeks

Yeah I didn't start til early 90s but it was also around this time in Alabama

I had heard some places in Georgia were technically in July!

The rain Central North Carolina is getting fits my mood perfectly today. My father lost his battle against Alzheimer's disease this past Friday and his funeral is today. He was the most patient man I ever knew and I couldn't have asked for a more loving or caring father. Please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers today.

Only 70 at Bush Field (pretty sure the same with the station closer to my work), I am really going to miss this type of weather next week.

There's an interesting discrepancy just past the 7 day mark. GFS wants to turn up the heat and Euro says nah. From the way it looks, CAE is opting towards the latter.

I'm sorry for your loss, praying for you and your family. Cognitive diseases are brutal for sure.

My condolences. That’s a horrible disease.

Same here, but we didn't have the 180 minimum day rule that has evolved. Was 160-170 ish. That has more to do with it than anything. I can remember when my kids where grade school, the General assembly here in NC, got lobbied by the coastal counties and passed legislation that wouldn't allow schools to open until last week August/ Labor Day week. Tourism $$. Mtn counties got a 10 day grace period, due to so many snow days built in to schedules. But that changed several years ago.

The clouds have sadly left us. It would be nice if we could get some rain though, haven't had any in several weeks now.

It's only August 6 and already 5.3" of rain for the month !
Before the month started it was extremely dry here but since the 1st its been crazy. This has been one of the wettest first weeks ever for august here i imagine. I had another 2.5 inches last night..on top of the 3 inches I got yesterday..Given me a whopping 10.20 inches for the month. Checking local observed totals it looks like everyone around the south and east of athens area has had 7 to 10.5 inches for the month. There was quite a bit of flooding around but as usual ffc forgets their cwa exists past athens and issued no warnings.

I’m sorry to hear that Bubba. It’s a sick disease. Stole my grandmother and both her parents
