Pattern Ah-choo April Discussion

I can see the NC mountains getting some accumulating snows out of this cool snap especially the NW facing slopes...

NWS COOP MOS FORECAST
Nearest town to Gainesville on the list (15 miles north) - they tend to nail it very well:

A below 40º low will not be a surprise Sat/Sun ... :p

For mby this is the official forecast and I'm always a couple of degrees colder and if winds go calm I bet I bottom out around 34-35!
Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy.
Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 38
Saturday Sunny, with a high near 60.
Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 37.

I hope you get to 29º just for the archive ;)

I'll be riding that cool train for the next few days, then turning on my lawn irrigation system. Not one drop of rain out of today's systems.

Why can't we have more winters like 1898-99. Even after that massive blizzard in mid Feb 1899 and another formidable storm in late January 1899, another snowstorm hit central NC on this date in Apr 1899, dumping 5-6"+ inches of snow along/near the HWY 264 corridor between Raleigh and Greenville...

In 1898-9, ATL had a whopping 9.9" of SN/IP, 5th highest in record with measurable in 4 different months! Per Webber, this was a neutral negative ENSO winter.

Hey Larry!
You think we'll crack below 40º on Saturday AM? MOS has High Springs at 38º for 2 nights ... LOL
Best,
Phil

Gonna be down right cold a couple of nights here, this from the Rah AFD

The thermal trough will shift east as well on Saturday, with high
pressure to settle overhead late Saturday, resulting in the best
chance of frost (and even a few freezing temps) Saturday night.

kinda thought it might turn out this way ... LOL

What's amazing is that yours truly who usually can't even tell what time of day it is somehow caught on ...

(someone's (or lots of someones) been teaching me here more in 4 months than I ever got since American 1st went on line .... :))

I'm guessing 39 with excellent radiational cooling conditions and with Gainesville being the "Great Radiator". Typically the lows will be colder than what the GFS MeteoStar output shows in these situations while the highs will be warmer. The 12Z has 45 for a SAT AM low that will almost surely verify way too warm. It has 68 and 70 for highs Fri and Sat. I expect your actual highs to be warmer but still extremely pleasant. Fri should be in the low 70's and Sat in the lower to middle 70's.

I'm so looking forward to my walks the next 4 or so afternoon/evenings in addition to watching the Masters.

NWS has bumped us up a couple degrees - probably due to wind - but I'm going on history and radiational and for 39º (another pcbjr boondoggle?)

The wind today was a little crazy. Gave me a temporary headache and my ears were still ringing for a little while after I came in.

18Z keeps the cool train on the tracks and barreling on into the station :D

(This is the April Ah-choo-choo sub-thread btw)

NWS going for 35 tonight and 34 tomorrow night.... I will easily drop to freezing or below. Frost a good bet here Sunday morning, gonna be a long night for some farmers

NWS is at 39º for tonight/tomorrow morning early, here ... we'll see, but I'm lovin' the train ride ...

That little heat monger wished and wished for a heat ridge last year and we ended up with a drought #carefulwhatyouwishfor

I just want 70s and I'm good

Agreed. I would love for us to stay sub 80 through mid May

Ernie is going absolutely ballistic in the southeastern Indian Ocean. Dvorak satellite intensity estimates have skyrocketed to 130-140 knots, borderline category 4-5 hurricane...
