5/18/20 - 5/23/20 Upper Low Flooding & Severe Threat

Raining quite a bit better than the radar would suggest. Sort of surprising for such a thin light band to be raining like it is right now.

We had more rain here overall than I was expecting, several times today there has been a hr or two of moderate to heavy rain....still only looking at maybe 1-2" over the next couple of days......

Beautiful boundary riding MCV with a MCS on the NAM, here’s soundings on the south part of the boundary, it’s ticking north every run B851995B-83C6-42A4-BA16-E3449B5A4293.pngA1BFB762-E18E-4AD3-9711-16FD59ED01C4.png2A6D3CC0-6D44-4345-A73E-4348B59EF6FD.png

Only about an inch over night here so we caught a nice break. Next band just getting here so we will what this one produces and hope for another break. 6z model consensus, 3.5 to go

Oh BTW, 42/42 and 67 in the house. Back to wood burning season for a day.

2.48" yesterday(as of 7am this morning) and it's pouring now. Now, I'm just short of 5" storm total for the last 2 days with a lot more to come! Guess I'm lucky my house is on a hill, otherwise, I'd be worried.
I'm somewhere near an inch storm total. Looks like the firehose might be pointed in this direction soon, though. Probably will see FFWs expanded eastward.

I do believe Friday and maybe Saturday will be the threat for severe weather. Soundings seem to support that.

Meh it’s a high risk here and guess what it’s not raining? Actually colder with 30s in the mtns to 42 here. This is colder than most winter days. Windchill is brutal feels like it’s gonna snow.

No model really showed the rapid explosion of storms/ heavy rain in Southern SC currently. Wow and temps is in low to mid 60s. Can someone explain how WE are still seeing thunderstorms this cool.

Just shy of 3" right now, sitting at 2.98. Worth noting it is all of 50F outside right now. "May" lmao

Quarter size hail near Charlestown, SC is now warned. I think it obvious there is some kind of dry cold air near the surface killing some of the rain in the Yadkin Valley..around Winston to Mount Airy southward.
