...Summary...
A strong, long-track tornado began just east of the town of Elko
in Barnwell County , then moved in a general northeast direction
through Orangeburg County, before dissipating southwest of St.
Matthews in Calhoun County before reaching I-26. The tornado path
length was over 31 miles, and at its widest point was just under
0.5 miles. The tornado was rated an EF-3, with peak wind speeds
of 140 mph. There were 2 confirmed fatalities with at least
7 injured.

The tornado began near Willis Pond Rd. Along its entire path,
there was widespread tree damage. The tornado strengthened as it
approached SC Highway 3 and Gardenia Rd., where it destroyed and
tossed a wood framed home anchored to the ground, lifted a
significant portion of a roof on a brick home, destroyed a fifth
wheel camper, and knocked over a pivot irrigation system. The
tornado then crossed Norway Rd. where it snapped multiple power
poles. As the tornado reached Fire Tower Rd. west of Neeses, it
intensified further, destroying 3 anchored manufactured homes on
Preserver Rd. near Ninety Six Rd. It was in this area that the 2
known fatalities occurred to residents in a double-wide
manufactured home.

The tornado then turned more eastward, crossing Savannah Highway
and Dragstrip Rd north of Livingston. There were several homes or
manufactured homes that were heavily damaged or destroyed in this
area. The tornado gradually weakened as it crossed North Rd. and
dissipated as it crossed into Calhoun County.

Hindsight 20/20, the moderate hatch was warranted and probably should have included most of SC. QLCS types were epic but the differentiating factor for a high risk and upper echelon very long tracks, lack of instability in the moderate hatch aligning with SRH and a dominant warm front.

Hindsight 20/20, the moderate hatch was warranted and probably should have included most of SC. QLCS types were epic but the differentiating factor for a high risk and upper echelon very long tracks, lack of instability in the moderate hatch aligning with SRH and a dominant warm front.

I had that same debate in my head regarding if SPC should have had a moderate for SC. I've seen high risks in the past not match this level during peak heating, let alone an overnight outbreak like this.

I still cannot ever recall a QLCS that seemed to cut off every segment into embedded supercells like I saw early Monday morning

So far I see 3 confirmed tornados for Wilmington zone and 6 for morehead city zone. Add the alamance county tormado and that gives us 10 confirmed so far.

.Hamilton County Tornado...

Rating: EF3
Estimated Peak Wind: 145 mph
Path Length /statute/: 14.5 miles
Path Width /maximum/: 1500.0 yards
Fatalities: 3
Injuries: 19

Start Date: 04/12/2020
Start Time: 11:19 PM EDT
Start Location: 6.8 SE Chattanooga / Hamilton County / TN
Start Lat/Lon: 34.9859 / -85.1915

End Time: 11:33 PM EDT
End Location: 5.3 NE Ooltewah / Bradley County / TN
End Lat/Lon: 35.1040 / -84.9816

Summary: This tornado could have begun just inside the Georgia State line and continued into Hamilton County. It quickly moved across the Harris Hills area where some trees were uprooted. It then continued towards East Brainerd Road and Stratman Circle where an auto parts store was completely leveled and nearby structures had significant roof damage done. The tornado then struck the end of a large shopping building where a restaurant was located. The restaurant façade was destroyed and the roof was peeled back. This is where the tornado picked up strength and was near its peak intensity. It continued northeast into the Drake Forest neighborhood where extensive structure, roof, and tree damage was noted. There were likely pockets of EF-3 damage here, as well. The tornado damage path really widened as it moved northeast into the Holly Hills neighborhood. This was likely the widest part of the tornado. Nearly as far as you could see to the southeast, tree trunks were snapped and significant home damage was noted. Some areas were blocked by tree debris and fallen power poles as well as large clean up machinery which limited easy access to some areas. Additional damage was found in Ooltewah near the Summit Softball Complex and particularly the significant roof damage to several units/buildings of the Integra Hills Preserve Apartments. The tornado weakened as it crossed South Lee Highway and eventually dissipated in southwestern Bradley County. The length of the path in this statement is only for the Tennessee portion of the tornado.

This unusually long track and wide tornado damaged and destroyed many residences, including mobile and single family homes. In addition, the tornado, which reached a maximum width of about 0.75 mile, caused extensive damage to trees and powerlines along its path, which stretched more than 24 miles from southwest of Estill,

It might be the strongest Southern SC on record. Since 1950, the Charleston WFO has 2 documented EF4 on record. I know one was in SE GA a few years ago but can't offhand remember where the other one occurred

Surprised this wasn't higher but it's preliminary.

Based on what I've seen, this parent supercell generated one tornado in GA, 5 tornadoes in KCHS area of responsibility and an additional 3 in SC in KILM area of responsibility... plus a large tornado detected on radar offshore. Incredible.

NWS MRX confirms two tornadoes in bradley county tennessee april 12, 2020 before midnight

EF2 roared through eastern cleveland and an EF3 swept through wooded area in mcdonald, TN.

I'm not surprised at all that they confirmed a tornado with that storm in which the core of it was "just" south of me, that hook/couplet was just too nasty for there to not be one. Finally doing some calculations here on google maps, and that tornado lifted about 5 miles south of me I'm guessing, if even that. Turns out I was absolutely correct to be uncertain there.

Lucky thing is most of that area is rural but there was still some problems caused with said EF2. There was a dairy farm that was severely damaged. Shift the track 5-10 miles north and it might have been a lot more than a dairy farm that had problems.

I'm also late to this but it's something I've been thinking, as it turns out the short range models, especially on the same day but even a day or two beforehand IIRC did a good job at sniffing out what turned out to be the second hotspot of this outbreak in southern SC. As awful as it was as it turned out...just imagine if it was daytime. Sheesh...

The latest numbers just released today are incredible. Chattanooga / Hamilton County structural damage assessment was completed today. Of 9,282 homes in the surveyed area, 6,478 had no damage, and 2,804 did. Of those, 344 were completely destroyed. Estimated damage in the $200-300 million range.

Also, a massive power restoration project with 1,153 people from 7 different states working on the rebuild.

The supercell that produced the EF2 Edisto Island tornado has been found to have produced two more short lived tornadoes ?

...Summary...
The same storm that produced a tornado at Edisto Beach also
produced a tornado on Seabrook Island. This tornado developed in
the southwest portion of Seabrook Island west of the intersection
of Seabrook Island Road and Camp Christopher Lane. The tornado
traveled northeast about 1.25 miles while snapping off or
uprooting dozens of trees and breaking off numerous large
branches. A garage was significantly damaged when a large tree
fell on it. Several other homes sustained minor damage due to
trees falling near homes or large branches falling on homes. The
most significant damage occurred on or near the golf course. The
tornado dissipated just northeast of the intersection of Seabrook
Island Road and The Lookout Road.
