Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

Tbh there’s some psychology going on too. We are all boxed into a county and we compare to the rest . Notice people in southern guilford / northern Randolph on here complaining they don’t get as much snow and mix more ? It’s a psychology thing. Based solely on climo obviously your more south and east parts of the county will fair worse than the more north and west parts .

Actually (assuming I understand your point), this is why I say that a lot of snow lovers will NOT be happier moving north. The folks I’m talking about will always look at whether or not they meet or exceed climo to determine whether they’re content.
as opposed to simply being content with higher amounts and frequency of snow. So, for example, someone moves from Savannah’s annual average of 0.2”/T or more of snow only every 5 years climo to RDU’s 5” or so climo. Let’s say they experience 3” snow/year in RDU for the next 10 years or a whopping 30” vs Savannah’s average of only 2” every ten years. Despite a 15 fold increase in snow, the folks that have to meet climo will still be pissed because they didn’t get at least 50”!

I didn't enjoy snow as much when I was in Indiana. It's funny how people in the south go nuts over 1-3" but in the midwest they would barely even mention it on the news.

When I moved to Charlotte from Birmingham I was convinced I was going to see snow, I think I had even convinced myself it was going to snow 10 times a year. It's been a good lesson to learn.

I don't want the Euro either. Thats ice.

It isn’t a mystery. It’s what one is used to. Also, snow is cleared much better/faster in MW. So, nothing funny about it.

imagine a winter storm watch that literally says: "we dont know what we are watching for, but just wanted to get the word out" good thing im not a nws employee, cause i'd do it

"after coordinating with regional offices, i have elected to hoist a watch about a potential watch about weather we dont know about yet".

I really despise wedges. They are never strong enough to give us wintry precip here and in the spring they often ruin our severe weather chances. The only time i like them is the rare summer wedge that cools things off.
