No, that's not a joke. She actually wrote an article on why its cheaper to rent than own a home because of 5 reasons.
Reason #1. HOA dues.. But does she not realize the cost of the maintaining and running the pool and other common areas is included in her rent (or sometimes it's a separate fee?)
Reason#2 Propert Tax Increase. IS she that dense to realize that if my Property Tax raises, so does the apartment's? Which then gets passed on to her in rent increases?
Reason #3 Appliance Maintenance. Yep, up front costs suck for homeowners when appliances go out. Especially the HVAC. but does she not think these are also rolled into her rent prices?
Reason #4 Safety and Security. Some homeowners buy big security systems, but I guess she thinks apartment renters don't get broken into??? Wut?
Reason #5. Outdoor Maintenance. She says it could cost up to $10,000 a year to maintain the outside of your home. I don't know where she's living, but a mower only cost $450 every 10 years or so, and is free to push? Also, does she not think these costs to grounds keeping are not passed on to her in renters dues?
Does she actually think these complexes are maintaining their pools, units, buildings, and common areas at a loss out of their own pockets? I live in a 3/2 on a half acre and pay less than $850 for a mortgage. You can't get a 3 bedroom apartment in town for less than $1200 a month. Plus, 96.8% of my mortgage goes to myself. Her renting fee goes to everyone else but her.
This is what happens when you teach feelings in school, and not actual ------- math.
