My aunt used to live in a flea bag motel. When she started living with my grandma and moved in some old furniture from there, I started mysteriously getting attacked even worse by bites that look like mosquito bites if you really scratch. At first, I think we paid no mind, but then I had a ton of bites after one visit during the winter. That was the hint that they were not mosquito bites. We were very confused about that, thinking that it may be some kind of mysterious allergy that I had. Eventually, during our Christmas 2010, I ended up getting at least two bites on my eyelids (if not more) when I was sleeping in the hotel room. We thought it was the hotel, so we eventually ended up leaving immediately on the day after Christmas (we initially planned on staying for one more full day) and after that, we have not stayed in that hotel since, a couple times staying in different towns, but now we stay in the hotel next to that hotel we abandoned when we go up there. We found out they did have a bird flea infestation I believe.
But as it turns out, the mystery was not totally solved. A few years later, I was in the area for college and started spending weekends at my grandma's place. She suggested I spend nights with her, so I started sleeping on her couch at times. First morning after when I started doing so, I am COMPLETELY covered in bites, when I maybe had a few mosquito bites if any when I came. It was absolutely shocking. Not long after, we figured out that there was a bedbug problem. So, as it turns out, I am affected bigly by bird fleas and bedbugs.
Grandma then has tried desperately since to rid herself of the problem, she has long gotten rid of the furniture that my aunt brought in from that living situation she was in, and has tried very hard to clean and clean. While there have been waves that have been better for me, the problem has never totally gone away. Me and my uncle are harmed the most, we thought it was only us, but then my dad found 20+ bites on himself the recent time we went up there.
Long story short, bedbugs need to be gotten rid of as fast as possible or they may never leave you. I don't have a solution here, but my start would be that all that bedding probably needs to get washed or exposed somehow to the highest heat you can wash/expose them to. It is thought that heat kills them I think. It's tough to do it yourself though apparently.
