Well, like I've mentioned already this winter.. I've literally looked up from my porch and saw it snowing on Signal Mt.. about 600 feet above the valley floor. We haven't had a decent (6-8") snow event near where I am along I-20 corridor since idk, like 2011 or so. The big snow from a few years ago literally was rain for us but drive NW 15 miles, lots of snow. North GA down to the north ATL suburbs usually do OK. South of I-20 not so much.

Yeah, that’s why I don’t get too caught up in chasing patterns. Good patterns don’t always produce and bad patterns sometimes produce. Obviously, a good pattern will produce more often than a bad one, but it’s no turkey shoot. And chasing fantasy patterns seems to be even more frustrating than chasing fantasy snowstorms. What's interesting about this map is that it shows that part of the deep south, mainly east Texas through LA and Miss, actually got a good snow out of a 'crap' pattern, much like other parts of the US South did in previous years. Chattanooga in Feb 2020, those Dec snows for Alabama and Georgia of 2017-18... and Jan 18 for NC. Now middle Alabama through SC/Columbia south has been screwed. But it still snows in the South, even with marginally cold Winters...
Not done. Had to get back to work@SD i love you. this will greatly improve the content here

I would say they are tenfold more frustrating even for someone who knows how to use the ensembles (hint: not looking at 300 hour output).Yeah, that’s why I don’t get too caught up in chasing patterns. Early 90s were especially brutal.RDU snowfall from 1/1/1990 to 12/31/1999 was tragic good lord
I will take the 2000s and 2010s

March 1993 and January 2011 are prime examples that some of the best storms for the southeast as a whole are RDU screwjobs. To a lesser extent, December 2017.Even March ‘93 was a disaster.
You can climb up the rock face from the quarry there! It’s pretty fun!! I suppose it’s probably technically forbidden, though, haha.As of today I have visited every state park/natural area / forest that is within 60 miles of my house . The last one was Occoneechee and wow was I surprised ! Did not expect the steep cliff and beautiful view from the top that gave a view of miles ! Occooneeche mountain is what’s left of and old ancient mountain . The overlook area is very much mountainous all it’s missing is another 2k in elevation perhaps ! I of course plan on coming back and ignoring the signs saying I’ll die and finding a way to both climb down and up ! Place is 1 hour from my house but 30 minutes from Raleigh . The triangle is definitely the best metro in the 85 corridor we can all agree .

Hmmmm how do I get into said quarry, just park at the state park and cross the Eno mountain road to the quarry? You can climb up the rock face from the quarry there! It’s pretty fun!! I suppose it’s probably technically forbidden, though, haha.
It’s the remains of the old quarry. It’s near the trail that goes around the mountain there, and you can climb up pretty close to where the overlook over the cliff of the mountain is. I don’t know if I explained they well, LOL.Hmmmm how do I get into said quarry, just park at the state park and cross the Eno mountain road to the quarry?
Ohhh I thought you meant the active quarry nearby lol! Yeah no imma climb down the side next time .It’s the remains of the old quarry. The 99-00 winter wasn't so bad.RDU snowfall from 1/1/1990 to 12/31/1999 was tragic good lord

?Can we just pop the SER and move onto spring? I'm ready to get back outside more.
There, I said it.
That’s an interesting winter, though, because outside of a 1-2 week window of glory in late January 2000 (four wintry events in something like 12 days, including the famed Carolina Crusher), it was a pretty irredeemably terrible winter. Just goes to show one storm/one wintry period can make or break a winter around here. The 99-00 winter wasn't so bad.
Will let you know in 10 days ?I'm confused. Do we suck or we still high fiving?
I like it when @KyloG is optimistic!
I'm confused. Do we suck or we still high fiving?
We always suck unless it’s actively snowing.I'm confused. Do we suck or we still high fiving?
The GEFS is basically the GFS ran in lower resolution 20 different times to get a smoothed average.I trying to learn a few things, what the different in the gfs model and the gefs ensembles? I hope I got the name right.
Additionally, the preliminary conditions are tweaked with each different member to get the different member results. The GEFS is basically the GFS ran in lower resolution 20 different times to get a smoothed average.
We toss it!Not a single EPS member on the 12z has snow for my area over the next 15 days. GEFS looked like ? as well. Can’t wait to break out the golf clubs soon
