Misc 2018 Banter & Venting Thread

So I found a woolly bear caterpillar today and it was totally black, do ya'll believe the legends about those caterpillars? Supposedly the more black they are the more severe winter the region will have, the more brown on the caterpillar the milder the winter. This dude/dudette was all black and on my front porch (Lawrenceville, GA), I don't necessarily want a severe winter but just want to see some snow!

Yea the squirrels have been busy taking all my acorns and apples... then again they might be building a ark.

I mean I feel like this winter had so much hype and as the weeks pass by and its not snowing it just makes you wonder where is this great winter at...

Plus the last couple of weeks been hard to find snow even in places up north there should be snow

then the models can't hold onto anything promising, something looks good for a couple runs and always so far out then poof

I know I know Jan/Feb is the best part of winter but like lets go already

The January thread is pretty unbearable. Does anyone else get tired of the junk posts with endless complaining, poor attempts at humor, and bad analysis? It’s hard to have a decent discussion about the weather. Ugh!

I’ll be glad when we get another legit threat and I can help regulate to keep it less junky. Plus, we will have
@Rain Cold on the team helping with his almighty Ban Hammer!!!

People are starting to slightly panic bit apparently ... cause as time rolls on... things seem to be getting pushed back ever so slightly for patter can change ... mjo taking its sweet time progressing ...
 
I watched the Cheeze-it bowl game last night and it was a reminder that there are too many bowl games. That game was an interception-fest. I think the two teams combined for 9 picks.

I believe a lot of people of people would be frustrated(if not even a bit sad) considering this winter were supposed one our great winters, considering the low solar,the Weak/Moderate El Nino ,PDO,the possibly of a negative NAO. This winter were supposed to be likes of (2009-2010,1979-1980,1987-1988,1965-1966 ,and even winters before 1950 like 1913-1914.1911-1912,1939-1940,etc. Of course there is plenty of time for this winter to become like those analogs I mentioned,but we need to starting seeing a real pattern change within the next 3-4 weeks.

It's pretty ugly right now over the next couple of weeks. When you compare the upcoming pattern with what we saw in the not so great nino winters it's a good match. Obviously it looks nothing like our great nino winters. Should caveat Feb 2007 was an OK pattern that didn't produce.

A big vortex over the arctic is hard to push off the pole, those typically have staying power. What makes it even worse is it's right over the Siberian sea down towards AK, so any kind of pac help we may get will get muted. This is the reason I think atleast most of January will be a lost cause, it's going to take some time to fix this. Was hoping for a SSW miracle, and maybe that will happen eventually as we get into mid/end January.

This is what I was hoping for in January. Hopefully it happens but it doesn't look promising, especially when looking at the past few GEFS/EPS runs.

Speaking of Cheeze, Cheeznado would be a great addition over here. Always love his insight, he keeps it real for sure.

Apparently that's primarily all it's for right now (not a dig on you at all - the opposite actually). Until a legit threat develops I've resigned to not posting much, it just gets lost in the sea of despair.

Yep, nothing a snowstorm can’t clean up. I’m just glad we are all still talking( silly and dumb at times) but not arguing, I think we are all actually on the same page for once. Just snow starved.

I'm going to slosh my tail off until that 2nd week of January onward shows back up as cold and produces. If I have to, I'll slosh until the cows come home.
