Misc 2017 Banter/venting thread

Probably the most astute thing I have read in months, at least; from Ryan Maue's new website:
Some Weather Services pretend that you can know in the morning where exactly a storm will happen in the afternoon. Or if it will be 50 or 70 degrees 20 days from now. The truth is: they can't. Actually, nobody can. With all those Apps out there pretending a knowledge which doesn't exist in meteorological science, people get frustrated about those weatherpersons. They give us a forecast for our place 2 weeks away, how can they be wrong for the next day?
I invite all to keep this in mind before calling for a torch, calling for an ice age, or calling anything in between ... ;)

I totally agree with you (as usual). Unfortunately, the only weather info most people receive is from these APPs now. I try to tell those closest to me not to base their plans on those APP forecast... even for later the same day. They will tell me "it says we will have a thunderstorm at 3:00 pm today and the rain chance goes to 60% at 2:00, 100% at 3:00 and back down to 20% by 5:00". Then they will make or change their plans based on that. Then, if there is no storm at 3:00 or it is raining at 6:00 they will grumble that all weather people and me are stupid.

I work for a major natural gas transportation pipeline so weather is hugely important to the demand on our system. Unfortunately, decisions are being based off these forecasts and the difference in getting a storm in B'ham or Atl and not getting a storm, especially during the afternoon, can have a huge impact on our daily throughput. A five degree difference in a daily mean temp in these cities can cause a 25% change in usage. Winter can be even worse. Again, "Weather People" get a really bad wrap. Our CEO called me into a meeting while he was here in B'ham for a budget meeting, and asked me what this winter was going to be like. I told him if he could tell me what Stock prices would be next February I would give him a forecast. Fortunately, he laughed, then I told him I thought we would return to a close to normal winter this year. That will still be a good bit colder than the past two. Now I am pulling for Neutral to weak Nina.

Sorry for being long winded, but this subject pushes my buttons.

Essentially the NCAA said you can take fake classes as long as everyone else is taking them (?), but if you want to transfer from an out of state school after taking real classes (like Braxton Beverly at NCSU), that's not okay...

So, apparently if you are UNC, you can commit every wrong doing possible, every day, and still not even get a slap on the wrist. *&$#
 
So let me get this straight...My yellow jackets get stripped of their ACC Championship in 2009 over a few dollars of clothing and UNC walks free from a laundry list of violations that could fill a landfill...Ain’t that a B&$@$

UNC is exempt from all rules and codes of conduct. Ain't that some &$^#
 
Not happy with the way my Dawgs played today but i'll take the W. Hopefully a week off next week will help us to improve and get well rested.
 
Really looking forward to Florida pulling what they did in 2014, except with the pass and just saying eff it, let's throw a ton of deep bombs. And it working, and me having my face on my table. It will be so lovely....:oops:

I can't wrap my head around this ruling. It's essentially the complete opposite of what they said about UNC. I would hate to be a UNC grad, they admitted to fake classes so every degree handed out by that university imo is immediately devalued.

Seriously though, Georgia's bye came just in time. Georgia is playing an Alabama like defense and rotates a lot (every team and coach rotates but it seems like Georgia does it more) and without the depth either you rotate in players that are definitely worse, or don't rotate, which with what has been done so far, will fatigue players quicker. And there have been quite a few injuries and a suspension on that defense. Carter and Bellamy, who started out on fire, are banged up even though they've continued playing to start.

The secondary is average at best, but that might be a moot point.

With Randy being a black person far out on one end of the political spectrum and you being a black person with much different political positions from him in general, it meant there was never a chance he'd like you despite you being an intelligent poster. Odd as it may sound, I really do think his hatred of you is more intense because you're a fellow black person with far different views as if that is evil or something! A sad but true litmus test there to be a member of the "club". I think another reason he treats you disrespectfully is because you're half his age. So, he treats you as an ignorant kid.

The admins and most mods there treat their BB as if it were some great privilege to be a member of as opposed to respecting its members' contributions as being vital to a quality BB. It is much worse for those with opposing political views though I'm not just talking about the political forum. I think one of the problems is that it got too big making them think they're invincible and way better than anything else.

Contrast Randy and company over there with storm5, sd, Dustin, Shawn, whatalife, Forsyth, metwannabe, and the other staff here. Like night and day!

I'm just waiting for the day, though I doubt it will ever happen in my lifetime, that "black person" or "white person" or "red person" or "purple person" or whatever is a not an identifier ... just "good person" or "bad person", and we move on from there ... but perhaps I dream too much ... :oops:
Now as for age ... I got this board beat ... :eek:

I think it is worse than ever and showing no signs of going away. It seems to be the key element that is emphasized in many people's intense politically based debates and leads to a lot of hypocrisy.

Have you or anyone else here seen the movie "Crash"?
