12/8/2025 Event - Repeat of Last Week?

I obviously know better than to trust the weather app but man it’s tempting to have hope something is about to start again lol

ETA: no lie, ive got flakes again!!! wow, the weather gods heard my complaints and took action fast

Definitely think those amounts are plausible. Higher elevation with some upsloping and BL temps below freezing. They’ve had a lot more consistent, heavier rates.

Thats wild, I still have nothing and I'm to the W of Chapel Hill
I mean, they were just a few dandruff flakes, LOL. That they were the best snow we’ve had all day is testament to how bad things have been. And looking at the radar, I don’t really have any hope. I suppose a dusting is possible if we get some lucky banding after dark, but I don’t see it.

Hell, thats more than I've seen today

Does anyone know why it’s snowing much more now than before even though the radar isn’t showing much precipitation?

All I know is back when I was in school, which wasn’t that long ago all things considered, we didn’t get off for flurries or light rain like happens all the time now (i.e. last Friday). Of course, my parents walked uphill 7 miles both ways in a blizzard to get to school, which wasn’t my experience, but it’s bizarre to me DPS, among others, have canceled two days of school for what seems to be almost nothing (granted, there’s a chance we pull a cat out of a bag with this one, but that’d unlikely and the school day is nearly over, anyways). And good chance they cancel again tomorrow because of black ice.

Did 2005 and 2014 so scar these school systems that they just cancel for everything now? It’s got to be tough for working parents who have to still go to work and call out sick or find childcare at the last minute constantly.

We got days off in my day for paltry amount of snow at times, but I don’t think we ever got a day off for absolutely nothing, which has happened on more than a few occasions in the last five years here.
I went to school with so much ice on the trees you could barely get to the road but since the roads were just wet we had school. I used to think it was a cyclical thing but not anymore. I now think it mostly has to do with social media. You can't really sue schools but you can blast the board on facebook. No one wants the public criticism.

All that said, December 2017 showed me it is sometimes better to be safe than sorry. We were only supposed to get a sloppy inch so they decided to hold school. We already had 1.5" by the time the buses started running. By 10am they had made the call that it was too dangerous to run the buses and we had to come get the kids. Always fun when the Atlanta news media is out in front of the school talking about what idiots they were.

Cold drier air pouring in from the north now. Richmond down to 28 /28 and just 50 miles North in Fredericksburg the DP is 13 and down to 7 at IAD.

Flake quality has seriously improved the last twenty minutes
yep, the past 25-30 minutes has been the only stretch of precip today where i was sure it was 100% snow, no mixing, and with big beautiful flakes.
it has slowed down already here, but still pretty dandruff flakes falling at a decent rate. if we could get off/on snow showers for a couple more hours, id be delighted - but even if not, im glad i at least got some mood flakes!

Will you do me a big solid? Go outside and wave that towards Orange Co?
my partner lives in CH near the border between Orange & Chatham, and he said hes seen "maybe 2 or 3 flakes." bummed for y'all that nothing made it over there at all... but maybe a little bit of back end will?
