12/8/2025 Event - Repeat of Last Week?

Puking fatties out here in Moyock! I was outside enjoying the scenery and right in the middle of snapping this picture of the front yard my neighbor disrupted the winter wonderland silence and yelled out "LOOKS LIKE SHTI!!"

For the record regarding the main indices for today’s wintry event:

- The prior -PNA rose to the more favorable neutral PNA (-0.1)

- AO -1.9, one day after a short-term minimum of -2.2 was hit

- NAO -1.2, one day after a short-term minimum of -1.3 was hit

- MJO likely was inside the circle phase 8 (probably won’t know for sure for a couple of days)

- +EPO

- -WPO

In my 40 years, I really can't remember a time when we saw measurable snow in the immediate coastal areas of southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina prior to Christmas. Amazing to see the Christmas lights in the snow. Really brightens the spirit that I have been lacking lately!

Best snow of the night now here off Lake Wheeler just south of Raleigh. I was hoping for enough to coat the trees, and might get my wish!
I'm very close to your location and can confirm what you just posted. It is sticking on exposed metallic surfaces and it just beginning to coat the leaves and grass in my yard. If that Arctic front had arrived sooner to feed the precipitation that fell as rain, we might have been talking about a couple of inches at least. It's nice to see the snow and to see it this early in the winter season.

Looked at stuff for Roa and looks like we had .64 liquid for the event. the first .1 was pure rain. Like Luke over in BBurg I struggled with 33 until about 3 when it started cooling off. It was still another beautiful snow paste job! Agree with others that Christmas lights in snow are just amazing! 1765245218526.png

Sorry if I have been annoying with all the photos and posts tonight, I’ve just been really excited!

No problem at all. You ought to see the grin on my face right now. There's nothing like a snowstorm to bring out the kid in us who love winter weather. I'm 61 and feel like I'm 21 right now. If we get enough, a tradition of mine is to go walk up the driveway barefooted in the snow. It sounds crazy, but we all have eccentric things that we like to do.

It just doesn’t want to stop these cell just keep back building!!

Yep! You’re in a more central/desirable spot for this banding than me, as I’m on the very back edge of it — but I’m still reaping some benefits! It stopped snowing 30+ mins ago but then just a few mins ago ramped back up some light snow showers on the northeastern part of Durham county. Keep it comin :)

Final recap from Blacksburg, VA.
All in all we picked up somewhere between 3.5-4 inches of snow. Really was fun with snow falling all day. Can’t complain at all about that fact and I especially cannot complain about how this winter has started in VA. Truly grateful as a winter weather fan to have two early and awesome snow dropping storms!
Will say that this could have been much more of a significant system for us. We hovered around 32-33 for most of the storm which made for some melting of the snow at times. If this had been an all snow system with adequate temps this could have been a 6-8 inch storm. Didn’t help we did not get the greatest rates either. But like I said I cannot really complain from my perspective just wanted to state what went wrong…
We did get the secondary roads covered as night fell so will be slick in the morning!
Happy to see we did get some winners out there in NC!!!

I just got back from the gym in south Durham. It was putting down fairly decently there (still light but it wasn't paltry rates) and they had a much heavier dusting, maybe veering towards a coating. I'm back in Chapel Hill now and it's just a scattered dusting here with ongoing flurries / borderline light snow with pixie dust flakes. Definitely ended up on the wrong end of the line with this one (of course, another few miles from here and there's not even a dusting at all).

WRAL future cast thinks it snows until it stops at midnight in most of Durham County. Imagine we’ll be in the high teens by sun up.
Didn't believe this was even possible at first but after watching radar for a couple hours if one more backend occurs it just might.
