just saw the h-borough mping! impatiently waiting for it to come on over here hahaStarting to snow here
As per usual the back door front is a little slower than expected, especially for the escarpment area. I figured you guys didn’t need that fresh injection though and would easily get to 31-32 when the decent rates showed up. I bet you still wind up with a couple inches this afternoon though.

BL temps and mehish rates, yeah an issue in marginal setup. But daytime sun angle in mid Dec is not an issue, seriouslyAbove freezing BL + daytime sun angle + meh-ish rates is the unholy trifecta. At least soil temps are on the cooler side compared to many of our systems (GSO's is 39 which is better than many systems although hardly "great") and the sun angle is lower this time of year compared to Fab Feb / March where we'd really be cooked, as the kids say.
Nothing here at the house yet. I just want to see some flakes in the air!Heavy Snow, starting to stick GSO. Reports Snow now Thomasville, Trinity, Archdale. Randolph County having to send kids home on a dime.
Not as much for grassy areas, but I do think it still has a sizable impact on black-paved surfaces. Of course, with good rates its immaterial. It’s also fairly irrelevant with cold enough BL temps (which we sadly do not have). I’ve seen instant stickage on blacktop in mid February when it’s 20 degrees out, but that’s so rare here.BL temps and mehish rates, yeah an issue in marginal setup. Push it east.Starting to snow here
3 different mPing reports just west of Raleigh of Mixed precip all in the last 5 minutes or so. So ur probably right it's mixing flakes and rainI just saw a few flakes! I’m calling it a win!
only took ~15 minutes for it to go from "a few tiny flakes mixed in with drizzle" to a solid amount of light snow floating around now! the time is upon us, RDUfinally some little bitty flakes mixing into light rain here in NE Durham
