Wintry 1/20 - 1/23 Winter Storm

A solid inch here..the last band that came through had huge flakes unlike the dry small stuff most of the evening. And those bands look even more impressive in sc so eastern areas are going to do very well.. Sad to see it end but feel lucky it did anything at all given the model trends mid week.

Dusting of sleet on the car...maybe I can finally flip to snow soon, because the airport has light snow.

Still quite a sad week for me man.

May not go back outside to look unless things quiet down, it's cold. But what's going on is kinda interesting. Hearing a bit of a crackling noise, and I know it's not rain as I confirmed it isn't.

This is about the finest snow I can remember seeing.
It really is. Honestly, it’s very similar to January 2003… it’ll be interesting to see what the ratios will be. I just went out with my son and even the flakes are still strong, it’s a legitimately heavy snow right… visibility is probably .25 miles. Anything that is in the trees blows out when a little breeze picks up… closing in on 1” right now and the radar and obs looks really good to my west and southwest.

It doesnt appear to be, CC is not showing any signs this warm layer is eroding really, line is static in NW corner of Pitt Co has not moved in several hrs,...
Man, I'm going to miss big down there in Gville (in central Pitt county). I went back and looked at the soundings from the 12z runs, and while they were a close call, none showed sleet at 10pm tonight. Even now on the 00z run, the HRRR still doesn't show sleet there (though the NAM 3km now does). I thought you'd be all snow

One thing I’ve noticed with these little, dry flakes is that they fell down in between the grass blades more, like sleet does. Wetter snow usually sticks to the blades more and leaves a pocket underneath.
Exactly. No air pockets with this stuff. Lot more of this snow on the ground than people might initially think. May as well be snowing sand.
