Misc General Banter Thread

Being that I’m very near SC and have driven there numerous times, I also know firsthand how bad SC’s roads have been for a very long time. SC has had a relatively low gas tax for decades, which is often blamed. Perhaps that should be raised to provide revenue to improve/repair/widen their roads.
It has been raised incrementally over the past decade or so, following a planned gradual increase, bringing it more in line with other states. Personally, I cannot tell it has made any difference in the overall statewide quality, despite them working on stuff all the time. Having said all that; I really don't see SC roads as any worse than any other regional states roads; everyone seems to claim their states have the worst. For the record, the worst stretch of interstate I have seen; by far, was the stretch of I-26 before and after Asheville. It was crumbling and dangerous for like 10-15 years before they finally decided to start working on it here recently. But in the past year I have been in every state b/w KY and FL, and they all have some pretty bad places.

I believe you. NC probably didn't prioritize that corridor for many years. They aren't known for upgrading roads going to/from SC. (I think I-77 went from 5 to 3 lines for a long time near Charlotte at the state border, lol)

There might be something to the gas tax that @GaWx mentioned, but I also wonder if SC just prioritized I-26 and I-85 corridors at the expense of 95 due to heavier commuter traffic within the state? I honestly don't know cause I haven't driven those corridors in awhile. It is weird 95 is better in GA though. I think they have a higher % of out of state commuters in GA on that route so wouldn't have as much incentive to maintain.

I always refer to 95 in Georgia as the Yankee Autobahn. People drive crazy on that thing but it is very well maintained. 75 is pretty well maintained and 85 is okay. I-20 is rough though.

Do yall still have that giant pot hole on 1-20 near Six Flags. Going east towards the city? I hated that damn pot hole.
