Noseeums do suck if the wind is down. Love bugs are the problem in September.

I was thinking of the flies that would come get you on Pensacola beach. Always came on days with a north wind in September. Some people called them stable flies, or dog flies. They look like normal house flies and will bite the crap out of you if they land on you. Usually the same time the blue crabs have eggs right up by the shore. What part of FL are you in? I lived in Pensacola from 2002-2022. In north Alabama now. Was weird seeing them get snow on the beach cams.
Are you talking about horse flies? Those look like large houseflies and their bites are very painful!

I think this is peak for me in this historically awful pattern... Like I couldn't even make up this would happen to begin with. The fact it won't make a difference 
it's so rare to even get an Atlantic storm in a good spot here and then it just poofs because of this stupid ridge

Its been bone dry here for weeks on end. Only got a 0.25 of an inch in about 7 or 8 weeks with storms missing me in all directions. Grass has been dead for weeks. I cant remember the last time i mowed grass. I guess since my local has turned into the sahara is why It reached 100.7 here today. Absolutely ridiculous. Can't believe how absurd the long range looks. Why cant we get stuck in a cold pattern like this.

As of 5:02pm, RDU rose to 100 degrees, breaking the record high of 99 previously set in 1912. This is only the 8th time that Raleigh has reached 100 degrees in September since local records were first kept beginning in 1887.
CHA tied a record high with 100 today along with a heat index of 107. Hottest it's been in September since 2019.

I agree. The cool shots in September that come to mind have always occurred the second half of the month. When I was growing up, my family would always go to the beach for a weekend in mid September and it would always still feel like summer. I was noticing today that the shadows really are getting longer so at least there is some more shady spots outside
Down here, highs in mid 80s and lows in mid 60s in mid Oct for a good number of days in a row haven’t at all been unusual during upper ridge controlled warm spells going all the way back to the 1980s.
Also, I even remember one late 1970s Sept for which the lowest of the month was the very last day with 68!

Yes by the time we get to the 15th our average high is already down to 85. There are also days by then where there are no 100s on record. It has still been 102 as late as September 28th though

How anyone can cheer summer wx on is beyond me. DP's in the 70's gets so old. I can dodge the sun mid day. It's not the 90+ temps in these whse's or anywhere else. But these DP's you cant hide from. We all are soaked before the sun rises if you aren't in front of fans.

September has started off on a miserable note and is breaking high temperature records across the eastern half of the United States. RDU reached 100 degrees yesterday which broke the previous record of 99 set in 2010. Temperatures during the next three days will be around triple digit territory which is unheard of for September at RDU which only had eight other 100 degree days ever recorded in its history.

What if this el nino is so strong/ off charts. That it doesn't exactly behave like traditional el ninos and we end up with ridiculous dry wx instead of the usual STJ firehose? Maybe the firehose takes aim in another direction, not traditional sw-ne from Arizona to the Mid Atlantic.
On my mind as we should start seeing some evidence on these long range models late Sept into Oct. So far its all crickets with regard to the STJ. Now death ridge is another story. Constant.

The state of AL’s hottest on record is the most amazing in the CONUS because it was on Sept. 5th (in 1925 at Centreville)! The 2nd latest hottest is NC’s Aug 21st (1983 in Fayetteville). Third latest is GA’s Aug 20th (1983 in Greenville).
I'm sure about the record high being broken yesterday. You were right to correct me as far as the number of 100 days that RDU has reached during September. Before yesterday, it has happened five previous times. There have never been multiple 100 degree days during any year which is a possibility during this current heat wave. I corrected the previous post.

I agree with your main point that 100 at RDU in September is rare historically. We can do deep dives into the data going back to the early 1900's sure, but whether it's 5 times or 8 or 10 since then, that's still rare by most people's standards.
