Getting a bit more concerned for the Raleigh area with the sun starting to come out here this morning, especially if we get any renegades

It's been rainy and cloudy here all morning. A few rumbles of thunder and lightning. Haven't seen any sun yet. Hopefully it will stay cloudy and prevent the fuel needed to spark severe storms.

Quit being obtuse. They made the call to delay and cancel schools because of the high risk of severe weather. Of course they have no idea if and where it would happen. But do you want kids on buses if there is a tornado coming?
Back in my day I used to have to run out to the bus in hail, wind, rain, etc.

Character building exercise

Not sure what to think. Started off with a cool breeze and DP had dropped down to 58 from a high of 64 overnight. However now we have breaks in the clouds and the winds are picking back up and Dp has rocketed up to 64 again. If there just wasn't so much crapvection out front!

Yeah, leaving shortly so should be there before noon, driving a typical work van, but not the sprinter types that have a bit higher profile.

Sorry if this was a bit of banter, but not often you can ask a Met or some very knowledgeable weather people specifics like that. Hope everyone is safe and enjoys whatever hits! (safely haha)
I'm not a meteorologist and there are many posters here who are really knowledgeable when it comes to weather, more so than me. I wish you a safe trip!

Looks like theres a ripple of energy moving through the trough which may be aiding in the increase in convective activity in the last hour. Dont think it's 100% impossible on the cells along and east of US1 tries to rotate this morning but it's a bumpy crowded mess. HRRR still advects some decent CAPE into the area around 19/20z so we will see but it's hard to not think the ceiling on this has been lowered quite a bit

9:43AM Tornado Warning for Central Cabarrus County Central Mecklenburg County Until 1015 AM EDT. At 940 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Uptown Charlotte, or over The Plaza, moving northeast at 40 mph.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near... Charlotte, Harrisburg, and Reedy Creek Park around 950 AM EDT. Mt Pleasant around 1010 AM EDT.

Yeah, rare to see serious severe outbreak after morning showers/storms. Certainly caveats of course but usually it just doesn't happen. I'm not complaining either

Came through pretty quick at the office in Pineville. I’d guess 40-50 mph gusts. Still pouring but the big gust of wind only lasted a minute or so. Was dead still until the rain started.

Nothing but rain and a few thunderclaps here in Morganton with the second line that is now into the Piedmont. It's warned north to south, but I'm not sure there's a ton of big wind out there.

Yeah, that is what usually keeps it from being as bad as possible here. Most of the time we need some sun to provide the spark needed for more severe storms.

It wasn’t much to write home about here in S. Charlotte, maybe 2-3 minutes of gusty winds. It does look like there’s some clearing between where the line is now and the junk around the triangle. Curious about that cell coming up towards High Point/Greensboro if it can stay out ahead of the line.

If I'm remembering correctly, there was some junk convection in the morning hours of 4/16/11. Not saying this is comparable, but worth noting.
Yeah, there was. Then it started clearing around noon and that is when things started popping off. Hope it stays cloudy most of the day and the sun doesn't come out at all or at least until later this evening.

down my way; we never realized any good cape/instability. the main line itself lost it's warnings, even for wind. kind of rained itself out, honestly. the focus is well to my east now along a line of convection that has started to form towards sumter/florence, etc, which makes sense

Tornado Warning for Forsyth County. Northeastern Davidson County, Northwestern Guilford County. Until 1045 AM EDT.
At 1013 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Winston-Salem, moving northeast at 55 mph. Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near... Winston-Salem and Kernersville around 1020 AM EDT. Greensboro around 1030 AM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Pfafftown, Stokesdale, Summerfield, Oak Hollow Marina, and Belews Creek.

This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 Mile Marker 33 and near Mile Marker 120. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 184 and 216. Interstate 73 between Mile Markers 97 and 103. Interstate 74 between Mile Markers 56 and 69.

Extremely heavy winds and rain in Kernersville which is in the tornado warned area. Heaviest part was a bit scary, lasted for 10 mins, it's still raining and windy but has lessened a lot

I think in most areas it was the risk of high winds and not so much severe weather in a normal perception ( tornados , lightening ) A school bus accident is a big liability on a school district!

Now west of this blob to the incoming line could be a different story. But around the I-95 corridor has turned into a solid rain event, hard to see this clear out and allow that line to intensify here, we shall see

Tornado warning between Asheboro and Troy. Looks like maybe the same cell that prompted the warning in Charlotte earlier
