Wintry Machine Learning Mauler 1/30-2/1

Ended up with an average of 4.5” here in between Thomson and Warrenton, GA. Measured in several locations. Highest measurement was 5.5” on the A/C unit. It is the most snow we’ve had since 2010. Just hope it doesn’t take another 16 years to see it again because I’ll be 49 years old and my oldest will be 17 haha.

Looking back on everything...which model(s) do you think did the best with this storm, start to finish?
Honestly almost all of the models showed my area for 3-5 inches most of the week and we ended up with around 5. All the models were remarkably consistent and nailed this area. Was hoping we over performed and got 6-8 but it was super fun either way and it will stick around for the kids to have fun for a few days

The heavier radar returns near Goldsboro and north west are moving northwest. I have been under the band for roughly 2 hours. Measured 1" over last hour with a total of 4" having started here ~ 1800. Any one else live under these training returns? I believe I recall seeing someone from Lucama on this thread. Going to end with more than I anticipated after being in the dry area most of the day.KRAX_loop.gif20260131_203916.jpg20260131_204126.jpg

I’m definitely good on the snow and more than okay if it stop in 2 minutes haha but any chance storm backfills from the east into the triad ? That would be wild

I've finally got a dusting on the ground near Lake Wheeler and looking at radar, there is heavier precipitation to the south and east that make it here. If we can get into that, we still might be able to pull an inch or two out of this storm. It wasn't what I had my hopes set on but it's better that being totally blanked.

State was clearly the dry slot here.

Snowing as hard as it has all day here. This is gonna pile up.
Based on radar, I think you’re going to surpass 6”. Don’t think that’s going to happen down here but maybe things will change. Getting decent snow rates but nothing spectacular and we’re running out of time.

There is a heaver band pivoting over from Goldsboro going NW that looks like it will hit Raleigh
As of now, all the heavy bands passing over raleigh (at long last for them! So glad that snow hole filled in for our Wake Co friends) have made it over to me in NE Durham and I do certainly hope this trend continues
