Wintry Jan 23-27 Winter Storm Obs

imagine we'll still have a little bit of mist or drizzle linger for a bit tonight but the heaviest ZR is done. it did pick up quickly but not a ton on branches, maybe a tenth down here
About the same I guess about 20 miles to your southeast. Sleet really done its job for us this time. Sadly, not the same from Greenville and west into northeast GA and especially north Mississippi into Tennessee.

The sleet seems to be picking up here now. You can really hear it when you open the front door.
Hope it holds and is sleet when it gets here. Grass almost covered, need another .5 will do the trick

If it holds these rates for the 2 hours modeled and doesn’t flip, I believe we’ll scare doubling totals.

Brother i was standing in shorts with rain hitting me in the face lol
I measured a limb in the flower bed in the front of the house (it was blocked by the NE winds from the house so it probably didn’t get any ZR when it was raining at an angle) and it was at 3/8”. So anywhere from 0.38-0.45” would be my best guess

1/8” of glaze in Dunn from overnight and a short burst of drizzle this afternoon. Additional roughly 1/4” of sleet on flat surfaces. Temp is 27 and precipitation is rapidly approaching

All of the models have underestimated the strength of the CAD in this storm and its stubbornness. That and the lower QPF numbers than forecasted are two reasons the power is still on for most of us in North Carolina. This has been a complicated pattern to forecast and it will be interesting to see a summary of the things that have never occurred with a winter storm before in the Southeast.

I’m 2 miles south of CH and let’s hope it stays that way!
You must be real close to where I'm at right now! My partner lives right by the Orange/ Chatham county line intersection off of 501. Praying we keep to sleet
