Our milk and water is fully replenished! 👏🏻

Brother was this taken on a Motorola RAZR

If I'm being honest, I think the most I'm probably going to end up seeing in the best timing window is mist.

There's just been a tendency for expected precip to not be as high as expected. Sunday night will probably work, but by then, it should be above freezing.

If it were going to be a couple degrees colder, the way that line winds up would make it interesting. Thunderstorms and freezing rain, maybe?

Why is NE GA under a Ice storm warning while everybody else is still just under a winter storm watch
Confidence but i struggle to understand how they didn't add gwinnett, barrow, walton, clarke, oglethorpe, oconee, and greene counties. These areas always get it hard and models certainly do so again. It will go past that but certainly the highest confidence should include those.

Its coming, patience. :)

From the KFFC discussion overnight...

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Thursday)
Issued at 138 AM EST Fri Jan 23 2026

Ice Storm Overview

The primary change to the forecast overnight was the issuance of
an Ice Storm Warning for several counties in northeast Georgia.
The portion of the Winter Storm Watch upgraded to the Ice Storm
Warning represents the area were we are most confident in
major/prolonged impacts from ice accumulation. This area may
experience widespread power outages and treacherous travel
conditions by Sunday morning. Confidence in the timing and degree
of icing in Atlanta, along Interstate 75 north of Atlanta, and
Interstate 20 east of Atlanta was lower. Thus these areas and
their surrounding counties were left in a Winter Storm Watch for
now. We will reevaluate the current Watches and Warnings later
this morning and provide updates by early this afternoon. An
expansion to the Ice Storm Warning is probable at some point.

FWIW Tim miller in Columbia isn’t buying that all the rain won’t be frozen. Thinks the wedge is being underdone and the cold.

You are lyin!!!
This is what the NWS in Peachtree City says:

Give that we anticipate a sharp gradient in temperatures Sunday afternoon,
our forecast for southern Georgia leans towards the EPS solution.
If this occurs MUCAPE values in the 200 to 700 J/kg range may
occur. This could support thunderstorm activity. Given that this
would be a high shear low CAPE environment, the primary concern
with any storms would be a brief spin up tornado. It should be
noted that this risk remains very conditional, requiring the warm
sector to reach central Georgia.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has mentioned the possibility for Tornadoes in parts of the area.

Thunderstorms in Central Georgia

Guidance continues to indicate a decent warm sector along the
Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon. EPS members consistently want to pull
this warm sector northwards into central Georgia, while the GEFS
members are almost all opposed to this solution. Precisely what
happens should depend on the track of the surface low. Given that
we anticipate a sharp gradient in temperatures Sunday afternoon,
our forecast for southern Georgia leans towards the EPS solution.

I’ve seen them split north and south Fulton before. I can only imagine they are making the determination on which counties to put in the ice storm warning vs winter weather advisory or freezing rain advisory, if that is still a thing.
It's about 60 miles from Far Southwest Fulton to Extreme North Fulton so the weather can be very different.

Reading this as I await my 20 inches that may not even all be there til Sunday afternoon haha

Yeah my NWS has "possibly a thunderstorm" on the Sunday night forecast.

It's hard to buy tbh, but now the GFS is actually threatening to have the low pressure system pass over me. So maybe there is an outside chance temps poke their head over 50 before crashing again.

Wow, parts of Georgia could be in the 80's on Sunday. Might need to issue a Heat Advisory.
Will be funny if you are tracking another snow threat there next week. Just promise to share some this way and never mention about sun angle next month! 😉

Welp I’ve packed my car up to head up to my parents’ place west of Baltimore. LWX warning for 7-14” of snow and .1-.2” ZR. Should be a cool storm up that way. Praying for sleet down here i really don’t want to see people suffer too much

Let’s hope DC traffic won’t be too much of a nightmare but im a bit pessimistic there

I’m jealous! :)

Back in my single days, I’d probably head over to GSO to stay with my parents since they are more prepared (they have a generator, etc.) and the storm might be better there with more sleet as opposed to IP, but alas those days are past. We have a dog that doesn’t play nice with cats and my parents have two cats, so that would have to be a last resort.
