Y'all see that 12z Euro run for NC? Below 10 from 06z 1/29 through 18Z on the 30th? The 18z temp on 1/29 is 9.
This sucks. That's it, that's the postI'm not as prepared for this as I should be![]()
I just tried to find kerosene and kerosene accessories and it's bare shelves everywhere.I'm not as prepared for this as I should be![]()
Might can get one at Lowe’s by SaturdayI bought a car battery inverter to run my electric space heater inside for a bit but I don’t love this solution. All kerosene heaters are long gone though. Might just be screwed.
And people are saying we're fear mongering... like, do they not realize how awful ice storms are? This sucks. That's it, that's the post
I'm considering getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow or Saturday and trying to see if they have any at opening.Might can get one at Lowe’s by Saturday
I ordered online yesterday and get it tmrw. My local ones had none in stockI'm considering getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow or Saturday and trying to see if they have any at opening.
I dont think so. Multiple days near or below freezing the entire day with no power is going to be just about as bad as you can get by modern standards. And people are saying we're fear mongering... like, do they not realize how awful ice storms are?
Yeah I was gonna buy one of those indoor propane heaters yesterday and said they had a dozen, I'll wait and see. Went today, all gone... everywhere. I have well water too, so I'll do the old school fill the bath tubs but my biggest concern is pipes freezing. Any suggestions on how to minimize that with no power and single digit nightsI just tried to find kerosene and kerosene accessories and it's bare shelves everywhere.
Thankfully i just had the house propane tanks refilled Tuesday for the tankless water heater and gas logs.
Doing the propane heaters inside thing makes me nervous, too. Heard of a number of fires and carbon monoxide poisonings from those during ice storms growing up...Yeah I was gonna buy one of those indoor propane heaters yesterday and said they had a dozen, I'll wait and see. That's like hurricane season for me, You think you are in control and ready until your not. Go with your gut every time. Good luck to you guys and girls up north!Yeah, I'd like to thank they safer these days but who knows
im in the same boat. ive got solar panels on my house but no battery storage -- and i keep saying "now is the time to go ahead and invest in batteries" because then i can actually make USE of my solar during an outage. but alas, i have not done so yet (it aint cheap!!!)Honestly, I needed a year. Doing a lot of hard scaping and replacing the deck this year (hopefully) and part of that project sequence was going to be getting a Generac whole home setup off the natural gas line and a backup Starlink (in case data goes down from severe/hurricane in warm months or ice during cold). Would have been sitting pretty with gas log fireplace, generator, covered deck w/gas and charcoal grill and backup WiFi (I’m remote for work). Alas….full pantry, plenty of groceries and full gas tanks in both SUVs with AWD is the best I can do right now.
Stay sleet up here you SOB…

so i, too, am just working with plenty of groceries & water; mylar emergency blankets and sleeping bag; a surplus of batteries + camping lantern, pop LED lights, flashlight, etc.; and a crossover SUV thats decent in ice/snow.
oh and two fluffy cats!
I purchase a NICE kerosene heater a few months back..I just tried to find kerosene and kerosene accessories and it's bare shelves everywhere.

Having checked several places, I'm fairly certain Iredell County is out of purchasable salt.
Fine with me to get a ton of sleet then dry-slotted while that LP xfers off Va. and scoots the hell on out of here ending this winter purgatory eventI'm sure someone will get their feelings hurt that I'm saying this but man give me thisView attachment 187792
Agreed. I've never wishcasted a winter storm away but here we areFine with me to get a ton of sleet then dry-slotted while that LP xfers off Va. and scoots the hell on out of here ending this winter purgatory event
No one wants to lose power for days and be in the bitter cold. It's miserable.Agreed. I've never wishcasted a winter storm away but here we are
same -- all fingers and toes crossed for this!I continue to be positively encouraged with the trends on the hi res modeling and them holding onto sleet longer and longer IMBY.

I think a dry slot would be absolutely worse than continued heavy rates because it'll just be freezing drizzle as others said.I'm sure someone will get their feelings hurt that I'm saying this but man give me thisView attachment 187792
Ok. It’s true. I’ve been severely anxious. I’m gonna look a fool, but I’m sitting on 2 generators and 20 5 gallon cans of gas. Why? Because I have two macaws and a Senegal parrot. Not exactly pets you can just up and evacuate with.I was in Lowe’s earlier and a woman was asking one of the workers if they had any kerosene heaters (of course they were out). She was concerned because if they lose power and the house gets too cold, her husband’s fish’s water will get too cold and they’ll die. Little things you don’t necessarily think about in times like this that do matter!![]()
