Wintry January 23rd-27th 2026

We like to sensationalize ice accretion in here… but there is no doubt, with this storm, there’s going to be Helene like damage and power outages over a wide swath of the south east.

You’re talking 2+ inches of liquid that will all be freezing rain in some places thanks to the strongest CAD event we’ve seen in decades, utilizing the coldest air in the northern hemisphere.

A savior would be much of it being sleet. I’m expecting the WxBell Euro maps to be skimpy on sleet once again due to what looks like too much bias toward ZR.

Watching AI discover CAD is so cute to watch. 1 pm Sunday. Barely cracking 20 in the NC piedmont. Mis 20s down to Atlanta.

i actually thought that the ai models would render it better since presumably they're using past data to train instead of parametrizing the apps as a bunch of low square blocks

@bouncycorn would need to explain, but it’s certainly not just now discovering CAD like a newbie. We’ve anthropomorphized AI, to some extent, to help folks have a high level understanding. And yes, it’s based on decades of neural net stuff spun from biology (rounding here), but it’s not as simple as just learning from the last CAD storm. It’s every bit as convoluted as LLMs (ChatGPT like things). Just differently.
