Wintry Midsouth Winter Storm January 12th-13th

When do you think it will be possible to pretty much confirm hits and misses in certain locations with this based on the track? Do you think they will have a pretty solid idea by this morning or more late afternoon? Specifically over towards the Athens, AL area where I have to drive to work from Huntsville. thanks for any info.

Seems like a few here called this AL impact spot on. Very light and only northern tier counties. Was hoping for an ULL surprise, but at this point, it doesn't even look like its going to close off. On to the next!

Sorry for the delay in responding, but it took me a while to join and get approved.

The graphic that was shared yesterday was a compilation of data from the official forecasts from our surrounding offices. We create the graphics primarily for the state EMA so that they have one easy-to-view forecast for the entire state. So, the forecast for any other CWA represented in this graphic is their forecast...provided graphically by us. Theoretically, you could view the same information on the NDFD, but not with the nice graphic background cut out at the state line, etc.

We did not intend for the graphic to be shared publicly, but now that it has, we are asking ourselves if we should make it available on a routine basis. We will likely add disclaimer statements to it to convey the info I shared above. The other caveat will be that it is only designed to be issued once a day right now, based on needs of our partners.
 
nam was a no go here in northeast ms. its amazing how models vary from one run to another

I believe this system is going to be a lot of now casting with it. It’s wild has the model especially nam changes each run. This close to go time for this system.

So much this! No #toomuchdryair, no warm noses (although I wouldn't mind a sleet storm), no looking at 500 mb down to the final hour, just an old fashioned winter storm, but we live in the south, it's never that easy haha.

Any very small chance this is a little stronger when it gets here, cold air moves in faster, shifts just a litttle more south, anything? Or is this just set in stone pretty much? If so I’m just gonna have to accept it, and I am sorry Storm for blowing up these forums but I have always loved snow but when I had kids, watching their joy when it did snow makes me want it more just for them, just makes me hurt for them when they find out it’s not, my little girl cried this morning and that kinda hit my heart.

The setup is just way too progressive for most of us. If it actually closed off to the west like previous euro runs had more people would be involved but that's not gonna happen. Just too progressive this time around .

thanks...seems like it looks a little better for N AL compared to previous runs...does it also show more precip? Sorry I'm still very new to reading these.

I was being funny, jerk, my laughing emojis don’t show up, just one quick fun statement that everyone does and you pick on me l, no I have no science, my are you picking on me? Didn’t have a bad day of chemotherapy at the dr. to get on here and get picked on, once again it was a quick statement (no science) with a laughing emoji just cause you gotta laugh. Why are a few of us picked on when we make little statements like this in all fun. Not like this forum is blowing up, if it was I would not have even made it.

That's what I was thinking too. It shouldn't be dismissed at this point. Did you look at the UKMET? I'm wondering what it showed.

that remains to be seen, this still could cause icy roads and some moderate to heavy snow in my neck of the woods
