Misc Cold Season Complaining

It's always some fly in the ointment. With all this blocking, 50/50 low, we're missing a well placed eastern trough/western ridge. If it weren't that, it would a progressive wave that doesn't dig.

It really is very, very hard for us to snow in the 85 corridor now. Even with the best winter we've had in 10 years.

We will be fine.... Low placement is fine .... it really hasnt even changed. The rest will iron itself out. Now if it was the LP jumping back n forth like we normally have sure but not with a LP sitting off the coast run after run. NC is getting SOMETHING wintry ... just dont know how much ICE ect yet.
 
NC really need CAE to be in the bullseye at day 4 and 5 to feel confident in getting actual snow.

The fact we have been sleet/freezing rain bullseye instead is a very bad sign.

Even if it doesnt work out.... imo the most annoying thing on this entire planet will be the "Told ya so" Losers that offer nothing more than turmoil to the entire board, they feed off days like today and hype each other up over it. That would be more annoying than missing the storm having to hear them run their mouth again and gloat when they offered literally nothing of Merit the entire winter to any discussion

Unless you just want a storm.... No one from CLT -RAH thought they were getting ALL SNOW.... if they did well, "cant fix it". Were still in play in NC for an ICE event nothing has changed there. Do you mean just for the I cry unless I get all snow crowd?
 
There are various ways everyone could score on the event. I actually feel okay about someone getting Wintry weather, and to be fair, I'm still worried about an ice storm in NC.

Selfishly, if it's not snow, im all for the green colors around mby. I have too many trees to deal with a major icing.

I give NC and Upstate 40% chance of icing right now.

I think I'm to the point that if I see ANY SE ridge, I'm just an immediate next. Confluence is never good enough with ridging, and we have very little CAD. I'm still trying to hang on to the hope Euro hangs in there and we trend back overnight. My nagging suspicion that this is all VA has a lot of merit so far today.

What the heck is blocking and an -AO for again?

For real. We live in the south of course it's probably not gonna snow. It's like thinking you're a genius for predicting a drought in a desert

It’s really not even the ridge aloft. It’s really that small TPV peice hanging back and sort of delays the feed on the east side of apps given it disturbs the flow, or gets sucked into whatever out west. We are probably gonna be back then gone a couple more times the next 3 days, but these setups with a TPV involved can completely screw a area or deliver to a area and make NWP useless

A 1044mb banana high situated over PA before the SW ejects would have been nice. I wanted to see the wave slow down and there's still time for that, I guess.

It’s just days out now lol if the trends are bad now it’s pretty much time to panic. Rarely does it ever trend back to something decent.

Well for the mid/late Jan event at day 5 everything was supressed for the interior NC/SC/GA and inside day 2-3 it trended back the other way.

I’m just begging for it to prove me wrong and it refuses to do so lol. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for things to line up right at-least once every year. Having a 3 year stretch of no snow is just unreasonable. And sure we broke it with 2 mini dustings this year which also should have been much more, but I want a 4inch event every year for me to be happy. It’s very frustrating also for the past 3 years to hear about MJO, peak climo, etc and then we finally get those things to line up pretty well and still nothing. It literally takes nothing but pure luck around here.

Well I'm sure I'm one of the ones you're referring to. Trust me I don't like this. I want snow as much as anyone on this board I assure you. I've had a half an inch of snow in 3 damn years and this winter is pretty much done. And it's been cold with a good pattern and still nothing. How are we supposed to find even a shred of optimism when Mother Nature keeps giving us a big F you? This decade is making the 90s look snowy and that's pathetic.

Stevo I'll be honest if you want 4 inches every year to be happy you're in the wrong place. Especially in a sinlge event each year. GSP Airport averages 4.7 per year yes, but that usually goes something like a couple years of 1-2 inches followed by a 6-8 inch season, then rinse and repeat. But I do agree 100% that the last 3 years is unheard of and I'm at a loss for words on it. And nobody on in this corridor from GSP-RDU can complain enough to offend me. Because I fully understand
 
Even without pulling precip anomalies I'm willing to bet our problem this year is it's dry. Matter of fact it seems it's been dry since last spring. Helene and a few tropical systems probably skewed the numbers but outside of those it seems La Nina has been doing La Nina things to precip.
 
How rare would an Ice Storm this late in the winter be in North Carolina ? Seems like Late February and March you don't see as many ice storms. When is the last time there was a big Ice Storm in Late February or March ?
 
At least we are getting an idea of less snow now. Still concerned about a significant ice storm for some people 🐁
