Putin wants southern Ukraine (Odessa) because its a warm water port. Been saying it since last week.

Please forgive my ignorance but, Russia already borders a warm water port. Or can construct one.
Can someone enlighten me please. Russia borders the Black Sea on the right of the map:

Odessa is a major terminal hub for oil. He already has crimea but Odessa is the prize. He wants control of the black sea

Germany Rejecting Calls to Ban Oil and Gas from Russia

They unable to find an alternative Russia just like the US talks with Iran, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia seem to be relatively fruitless.

I have to mention Israel. They are behind these peace talks with Russia and Ukraine via security operations by the Syrians. Hard-liners from Ukraine, US, and UK are angry at Israel for staying neutral. Secretary Blinken is approaching these discussions with unproductive rhetoric. One of the discussions in Israeli pertained to Israel wanting to open up the agricultural sector of Ukraine ASAP due to the civil unrest that would occur within the borders of its Arab neighbors. This comes after Israelis efforts to bring back Egyptian, Lebanese and Syrian refugees back from Ukraine with Russia's blessing.

Bottomline, Russia wants a partnership with Israel, and would like to keep them and Iran as a counterbalance in the region. Russia is allowing Israel to use Syrian airspace, and it appears as though they want stronger ties with the nation.

As Sandbar indicated, they want Odessa cause of it's infrastructure and traffic. Those warm water ports in Russia are located in inconvenient areas, and they don't want to share the Sea of Azov with a hostile Ukrainian Military/Navy. Odessa has roads, air ports, storage, and multiple rivers.

Scratch that thought. Russia wants all those Ukrainian ports to facilitate trade.

Odessa has an international seaport and airport as well as a long cultural history. If he controls the black sea it's a military defense and economic advantage to Russia

They don't have one, but, could build one. This war is about other items (ALSO) like borders, oil, and farm land

As a avid player of War Thunder I just wanna mention how leaving the weaker side of the tank open like that is a sure fire way to get ammo racked in that game.....I cringed the whole time he sat there exposed like that, though he seemed to be engaging soft targets.

just horrible

random indiscriminate rocket attacks on Kharkiv overnight last night as Russia continues to maim and kill innocent civilians...

Looks like either the pilot cutaway a fouled main chute or it was a two seater and the other guy cutaway his chute and or something else went very wrong and he is dead or already landed.....

I never trained with Russian SF (Spetznaz) but know their capabilites. If it's true that they have high losses ( and it could be) then its a signal to me that this Russian war machine is beyond underprepared. Its under funded with pisspoor leadership and planning. They haven't even gotten to the real ground fighting that will come if they have any intentions of occupying Ukraine. You cant just sit back and bomb it all day watching military resources render itself useless

Graphic images in the thread so you've been warned but this is just sick targeting of civilians. And I get that many Russian troops didn't know what they were getting into and many may have even surrendered but many are loyal to Putin as well, the operator of this tank, those that fired on this car, had to know these were civilians and posed no threat, yet they annihilated them anyway. While this is going sideways for Russia, let's not kid ourselves, their are some evil sick bastards in control of weaponry within the Russian army and this is only gonna get uglier before it's over.

I’m all for sanctioning Russia and I definitely have no problem sanctioning China, but I don’t like this approach at all of sanctioning a nation because they don’t sanction a nation. It screams of a roadmap for blocks of countries sanctioning us in the future.
When we're a superpower and have the world's reserve currency, we tend not to worry about such things. Confiscating private property of citizens in other countries, cascading sanctions, etc. is all going to have ripple effects downstream that will end up not benefiting the US. But it feels good to stick to the bad guys, and we live in a feel good world now. My advice is to just do your best to keep you and your family as prepared and self-sustainable as possible.

Yep, agree on all points.

Russia is failing so they are literally trying to break the morale and force a surrender. I get Ukraine's resolve and resiliency but how long can they realistically endure this

Ask yourself how long we would hold out if this was happening to us in our country and towns fighting for our homes....I cant imagine, I try to ask myself these same things and I cant see how we would ever surrender, so I guess for a lot of these Ukrainians the answer is the same......the Russians are gonna pay in blood for every inch they take.

The downside of not having a lot of training on all the different systems they were sent, not sure what would have happened if it was several inches lower, some of these have to travel a certain distance to arm to prevent killing the guy shooting the thing if he does something dumb like shoot a wall 5 ft away.

Personally I could hold out until I drew my last breath, as I'm sure there are many on here and around like that, but collectively as a society I'm not too sure. Most can't survive without AC and wifi so I have my doubts.

Anyway, a people fighting for their freedoms and their very life can sustain beyond normal expectations but at some point seeing dead civilians over and over will, unfortunately, severely effect the psyche of those people.

Am I allowed to say that I'm disappointed that I'm beginning to see a lot of pro-Russian/Russian apologist sentiment on social media? Sorry if that is too political.

It's fine, in fact, if you look at the #IstandwithPutin or #IstandwithRussia on social media you start to see why some feel that way. Not that I agree it's just the propaganda machine is in full force and has more avenues then ever to get the info out there and it's winning over many from other countries. There is a strong anti-American sentiment with it for sure.
