Yeah you can't just go jump in all willy nilly like Rambo to the rescue. What should have been done a long time ago wasn't so there is that. The only thing sane you can do now is send aid (mainly weapons) that can offer immediate help not help 6 months from now and pray (if you pray)......Neither side looks to back down so it's going to urban warfare and a lot of people will die that shouldn't have. Putin obviously has no regard for life, neither the people of Ukraine or his own, so in my opinion the condemnation and sanctions can only go so far (Certainly can't hurt). Most of the rest of what I would like to add, and the most important is political but I will refrain so no wars break out on you guys board.....

The way I look at it is there obviously a middle ground that can be easily met to end this conflict and that’s why I think intervening militarily is extremely dumb to risk the entire population of the world to prove a point. That’s just my opinion.
There is no middle ground. Putin wants Ukraine, they don't want to give up Ukraine. There was never a easy end or middle ground.

We are DEFCON 2 now in Europe, just heard. That's last stop on scale, correct? Hopefully someone with knowledge can chime in/ correct me. Thanks

Couple of things the US never ever openly discuss it's Defcon level ever....Defcon is for the US not Europe and there is no separate Defcon setting for the US in Europe.....the highest it is ever thought to have gotten was Defcon 2 during the Cuban missile crisis though the US has never stated what it was at that time.

Ukraine has to be the line in the sand, Putin is in a very bad position here. The Russian people's heart is not in this, several weeks or months of these kind of sanctions will take the oligarchs heart out of this.....the demand for Russia to leave/give up will grow every day, especially if these dead numbers are right for the Russians, if there are 8-10k dead and 25k wounded Russians by the mid to end of March with crippling sanctions and Ukraine still telling Russia to go ---- yourself I think Putin will suffer a medical emergency.....

People watch too many movies.

Putin is vulnerable, as vulnerable as he's ever been, which is why he's as dangerous as he's ever been.

Last sentence is exactly my thought. Why would Ukraine agree to demilitarize after just being invaded? They would simply be agreeing to become a Russian pseudostate.
Yea, that and the provocative mention of denazification looks like this was more for show than a reasonable offer attempt.

Welp....... That'll pour a little gasoline on the fire.
*To be clear, I didn't mean this as right or wrong, just that any alliance with Western Europe is going to be viewed negatively by the Kremlin after they just issued conditions of surrender that included a neutral status. Ukraine is drawing a line in the sand on being a sovereign nation. They're tired of being cut off from the rest of Europe, tired of being the poorest in Europe, tired of being under Russia's thumb.

Does anyone have a link to an updated map today showing Russian captured territory?

Just saw first grainy video of the most recent large explosion, pretty impressive. Also surface to air missiles possibly used to try to take down Russian jet responsible for that bombing of the communications center. Preliminary stuff, still seems Russia is trying to win the airways, which they haven't yet, and most likely preparing for an offensive to try to take Kyiz

Probably only a handful of us on this forum that were alive during the 50s and 60s(I'm not one of them) when the world was held hostage by the threat of imminent nuclear war. As we seem.to be reentering a similar phase is anyone else pissed that our lives and futures rest in the hands of a few egomaniacal men?

While not as bad as the 50s and 60s, the cold war during the 80s was also very real and yes it ticks me off that we are heading back to that unfortunately thinks to these idiots.

"A nuclear war cannot be won, and must never be fought," the White House official said. "We think provocative rhetoric regarding nuclear weapons is dangerous, adds to the risk of miscalculation, should be avoided, and we will not indulge in it."

The official said the U.S. is assessing President Putin's directive and at this time sees "no reason to change our own alert levels." Neither the U.S. nor NATO have any desire or intention for conflict with Russia, the official added.
