Wintry Feb 11-13 2021 Ice Potential

Got a half inch of ice accretion on our roof in Christiansburg. Northbound US 460 in Christiansburg closed due to major wreck
Just drove south into north Raleigh. There was ice in the trees all the way down. Some areas worse than others. Funny, crossing the lake there was very little ice but once I got away (still heading south) I saw more ice.

I doubt I venture out again any time soon. Lots of trees/limbs are falling out there.

Had between .1” and .15” at the house. Took a drive south. Asheboro just had a glaze in the treetops. No evidence of icing in Ramsuer. @Webberweather53

There's still some glaze on the upper half of trees around Brier Creek on the higher ridges.
0.25" of ice now...trees, limbs down everywhere...no power..sucks

Dang just drove up alll the way to Salisbury earlier and there wasn’t much, guess it was just very brief and spotty because there was a few things glazed even here last night (AC units/sides of gutter)

Seeing several reports now of 0.3-0.4" of glaze in Rockingham, Caswell, & Person counties. Unfortunately, my forecast for 0.33-0.5" of total ice accrual is going to verify in these areas.

Still have power here(knock on wood), flickered about 30 times the last couple hours. Good news the temp has crept above 32... solid 1/4” on trees. Been popping off in the woods the last couple hours. Was right on the verge of having a nasty ice storm.

Looks like we got HRRR’d on temps, never dropped below 32 at RDU despite what it said. I think we had some glazing on tree tops here and the like, but pretty minor. On the other hand, things seem worse in Greensboro, where my friend who lives around the UNCG area has lost power. Not sure about my parents yet.

Just a FYI... Charleston, SC has been stuck at 41° since midnight... rain continues.
My region just north is 39° ... classic cold air damming per AFD...
Definitely think this comes into play later with the next series of storm systems..

Cedars are taking a beating
34 here. Ice still on tree tops, but it’s melting. Not sure if I ever went to 31 last night, which I think made a huge difference.

We haven't been above freezing since day before yesterday.
Depends if you lost power or not, hahaha.
My parents near the GSO airport said they still have power, but my grandmother who lives one street over from them doesn’t. Go figure.

I actually almost went back to Greensboro this evening to visit my parents since I don’t really have much going on here this weekend and haven’t been back since Christmas, but I’m glad I didn’t go back now, haha.
Pure ice storms aren’t much fun. Combine it with some sleet and/or snow and I can have some fun with that, though.

Considering the VAD profiles show the damming inversion is only 1500ft off the deck... Indeed

Had a pretty good glaze here in Huntsville of ice on trees and street signs and house roof this morning that was poorly (or not at all) forecast. Didn't start melting until after 1000.
