Misc This Means WAR

Looking back it seems wild to me that we only recently got early voting in SC. It was so nice to show up after work one day and there only be one other person in line. I remember waiting in very long lines years ago.

Years ago I worked campaigns for both R and D candidates state wide and one nationally and I can tell you I've never seen an atmosphere among the voting public like this. Anger is the best way to describe it. I still keep up with those folks and both sides seem to believe the polls may not fully capture the extent of what's coming tomorrow. I'll be very curious to see what happens in SC specifically. Some of the private polling only got the two senate candidates evenly split by weighting the polls to absurd levels like R+14. When one side is turning out like it's a presidential election year and the other side by all accounts is not, that's a recipe for results thought impossible not long ago.

Hope for a safe and smooth day for all the staff and volunteers working tomorrow. It feels like a thankless job a lot of the time.

100% on this post. We need a viable third party that is not subservient to a raving egomaniac like Donald Trump and one that is not influenced by elements that want to make America a Socialist nation. I've been a moderate for most of my life and this year's mid term elections have some of the most unappealing candidates I've ever seen. I don't really want either party controlling the White House or Congress anymore.
The elitists don't want a third party they want everyone to fight while they plan their agenda. I think a good percentage of people are in the middle at least those I have spoken to.

If I have to yes but I'd much rather have a strong middle of the road libertarian party take shape and kick both The Radical Republicans and left us liberals to the curb and make their own way forward without those Fringe aspects of the two parties

Libertarians are by definition not middle of the road.

More broadly though, what we need above all else (IMO) is to at very minimum uncap the House and increase the number of Representatives. It was last changed in 1929 when we had a population of around 122 million. Now we have about 350 million. I think with all our resources we can figure out office space and accommodations for at least 100 more. This would neuter gerrymandering on both sides. An even better plan would be to move fully towards proportional representation so that each state is represented by the full body of its electorate, not just the largest plurality. There's nothing in the Constitution that prevents it.

I early voted Thursday morning took 20 minutes total

But I'm trying to figure out what the point was really. It's not like the Democrats really have a shot here. Trump won by 34 points and took every county and OKC/Tulsa had been blue in prior elections

The guy who's gonna win can barely put sentences together so that's just great. He created a brand new county last week!

The most interesting ones around here is Kansas and Texas of course to see if they flip. Kansas did elect a Democratic governor a few years ago

A simple but effective hedge against partisan political parties is to ban closed primaries if the elections are administered with public funds. Currently all states fund primaries with tax dollars, but only 14 require open primaries.

No early voting where I live... just go get in line and wait

That won't happen because that makes sense

I know you know, but is the same here. The Republicans are bought and hand picked by donors and the Alabama GOP and the Democrats are idiots. Barry(Bought by Washington) Moore will join Richard Shelby's plaything and Alabama's Senators will be set for the next fifty years. I guess its possible that Moore will die when I'm like eighty, but considering Britt is my age, She will live to be one hundred, I'm sure.

This is an absolutely insane idea. All this would do is put more of these idiots up there.

I posed a question the other day in General about maybe starting an election thread if everyone would behave... looks like we are kinda morphing into that right now :)

The whole Republican primary was a complete mess here even after this dude got the Trump endorsement. It went to a runoff and he literally only won by 1200 votes. It was crazy. I mean if this state was at all in doubt I bet there would have been more effort to try and flip it but they never helped her at the national level. She had the nomination way before he did even

And yeah mom told me earlier she can't believe Tuberville will be Governor of Alabama. Said she'll never vote for him so there's that haha

The whole system is a mess for sure. I see why a lot of people don't vote but apparently early voting was huge here. I went the second day and it was still pretty busy but they said the first day was completely insane like a Presidential year

But I mean j've had a feeling for awhile there will be a lot of anger at the Republicans nationwide

Yep... that war may end up changing 1 or 2 legs of our "Regime" after tomorrow

Which wont make a difference. The democrats are not stupid enough to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Would make much more sense to crow that despite them not doing a thing, when they were elected, that is what won it.

Its the pendulum effect, but it won last. Most of the republicans who don't vote will come out in vengeance in 2028 to defeat the evil socialist wave that absolutely must be stopped or our country will be destroyed after the elected Democrats doing nothing(like the GOP) for two years except griping about Trump.

As far as AL goes, I expect nothing changes from Grandma to Tuberville. Much like the President, outside or more like inside pressure guides the governor so its more of the same status quo.

It sure would be nice to not have to pay taxes on groceries in AL. Craziest thing ever. I spend ~$100 a month in taxes just on food that I didn't pay when I lived in FL. I don't know... maybe we need a lottery?

If we get a lottery it needs to 100% go to updating our state parks and cutting the absolutely stupid high camping rates.

Quite the opposite. You dilute the partisans by having representatives that reflect their constituents. Right now about 400 of 435 House seats are won in the primary and the general election becomes a foregone conclusion.

Just drove by a polling place here and it's a dead zone nobody in line

It should pick up later in the day, but I drove by a handful of polling sites and saw the same on the way to work.

We're seeing something very few living people have, which is a general election with the party in power led by a President this unpopular. Harry Truman at the end of his term was the only President to reach this level of unpopularity since modern polling was invented. Even Richard Nixon was slightly more popular before he resigned. It makes for a predictable yet unpredictable election because it's hard to gauge the willingness to turn out among those loyal to the President's party.

If the polls are still quiet at 5pm today, from what we know of early voting trends it will be a generational night for the Democratic Party.

Come On Biden GIF by GIPHY News

There were not many people at my polling place this morning. I went ahead and voted, not as an endorsement of the Republican or Democratic platforms, but more to weigh in on local issues: school bonds, state constitutional amendments and local candidates for county races. Even if you are disheartened by the state of politics on a national level and tempted to not go to the polls, there are always issues that you can vote on that might make a difference in how things evolve in the area you live in.

I thought MeeMaw did a pretty good job... or whoever was running the office for her

Tuberville is a racist and thus I wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher if I were in AL.

I’m voting straight red ticket for the second time in my life because of this clown. It’s a pretty simple choice do you support communism?

Voting for a Dem doesn’t mean someone supports communism just like voting for a Republican doesn’t mean one supports fascism. That’s merely a misleading MAGA talking point to get votes. And Biden is far from a Communist, regardless. He’s actually pretty moderate just like GA Gov Kemp, whom I voted for, and NC Senator Thom Tillis, whom if he were running again I’d vote for if I lived there. Both of them have operated as if they have a mind of their own instead of feeling like they have to please Trump, which I’ve been happy with.
