The June Thread 2021

Flashback to the heat wave of 2012. 9 years ago. Hotter than a two dollar pistol View attachment 85853

7/4/12 remains one of my favorite weather days ever.

Had a high of 102*F in Detroit and mostly sunny skies give way to cap busting severe t'stormd. Saw nickel-sized hail with the 1st round late afternoon 7/4/12, then a derecho blew through during the late night/early morning. on 7/5/12.

Still waiting for another day like it.

Given the right conditions ( dry ground, downsloping, etc) i think 120 would be possible.
I can't even fathom why you make posts like this. I mean it's technically within the realm of possibility, but that's like saying Raleigh will probably get a 4 foot snowstorm this winter. It doesn't seem worth much discussion in a serious thread.

Only states in the south that have ever hit 120 are Texas , Arkansas , and Oklahoma . 120 exact record high for each state , every single other state in the south has a record under 115 . The Atlantic coast southern states have never seen higher than 113. Florida hasn’t even hit 110 before ! Incoming dookie Dan comments about how on earth can x at 65 latitude hit 13000 degrees but not Florida .

I mean if the conditions are right, why not? Late season transitioning TC, early season visit from piece of the PV, monster NE high, all combine for the perfect storm right over RDU....... ?

I bet people thought the NW and Canada would never have a shot at 120 either.
They don’t , highest forecast is 117 from any reputable met agency. Google forecasts have some eye candy with places hitting 122 even but that’s inaccurate . Also , they always had the ingredients for extreme heat ... ones we don’t have . The PNW is bone dry from June - august , with very low dew points , very high mountains , and a nearby desert . The desert isn’t close to us , we are never bone dry , and our mountains are more like really tall hills .
