Winter Storm Forecast Contest Thread (January 10-11, 2025)
I will put up $50 for the winner. Winner take all. DM me if you would like to donate to the pot ($10, $25, or whatever)
Here's how it will work:
Post in this thread your total storm snowfall (includes snow and sleet) for each of the following cities:
Memphis, TN (MEM)
Huntsville, AL (HSV)
Gainesville, GA (GNV)
Greenville, SC (GSP)
Asheville, NC (AVL)
Raleigh, NC (RDU)
I will take the differential of your forecast and the actual result (absolute value) for each city and sum the total. Lowest differential total is the most accurate, and the winner.
Example:
Memphis - Actual 10.0 / Forecast 10.1 (Diff is 0.1)
Huntsville - Actual 11.0 / Forecast 10.9 (Diff is 0.1)
Gainesville - Actual 12.0 / Forecast 20.0 (Diff is 8.0)
Greenville - Actual 13.0 / Forecast 10.0 (Diff is 3.0)
Asheville - Actual 14.0 / Forecast 14.0 (Diff is 0.0)
Raleigh - Actual 15.0 / Forecast 0.0 (Diff is 15.0)
Total Diff for this forecaster is 26.2. Lowest total Diff wins
Rules:
1. You must post your forecast in this thread (no DM'd forecasts will be accepted)
2. Deadline for forecast submission is Thursday at 10:00 PM EST - right after the NAM run I will ask SD to temporarily lock the thread at that time so I can collect the numbers.
3. You can edit your forecast as many times as you like up until the deadline. Just edit your original post.
4. I will payout the prize money via PayPal if at all possible. If another option is needed, we will figure it out. Recipient will be asked to confirm receipt of funds.
5. This is open to anyone who can post here (Mets, Non-Mets etc.)
6. If there is a tie, the winner will be the poster that had the closest differential at the city that received the most snow, next tiebreaker is same for city that received the 2nd most snow, and on down the line. If still tied after going thru each city, we'll split the proceeds.
7. Lastly, if everyone gets blasted with warmth and each site ends up with 5 minutes of snow and the rest rain, so be it - but in that case, Memphis will save me (I hope).
Hope you can join in
