Not you necessarily, but that is how alot of people were lead to think of it. We were still absolutely dependent on other nations as alot of the oil we produce is exported. If the global supply is reduced (pandemic, war, etc) the global price goes up, domestic oil companies are not going to sell to US consumers at a discount. It will be sold to us at market price which is what we are seeing now.

We've lost a 1/3 of truck drivers since March 2020. I have to deal with imports directly and indirectly both coast. East coast always better.
Be nice if West Africa had infrastructure, law an order. Those nations on the coast could boom and put china to shame. Corporate will always chase cheap labor. Hate it. Wrecks our work force and props up Thug govt's. China thug # 1

Keystone XL was only 8% completed when Biden halted its construction. Even as of now, no oil would have been flowing though it. Thus current high gas prices have little to nothing to do with this directly. Absent gas station gouging, the high prices are largely based on crude's rapid rise, some of which is due to Putin since last month. Also keep in mind that Brent crude has risen as rapidly meaning crude worldwide has risen sharply.

Do I think Biden made a big mistake in stopping it? Yes. But the meme you posted is deceptive (like many memes) for the reason I stated.

But here's a thought: Is it possible Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine had Keystone XL not been stopped even realizing it would still be a couple of years before the US could import it? Think about it. Putin knows that without this extra oil coming from Canada via Keystone XL within a couple of years that the US is more apt to still need to import from Russia for a good many years to come vs fewer years if Biden hadn't canceled it.. Thus he's sort of in a stronger position with Keystone canceled vs if it hadn't been. So, perhaps he wouldn't have attacked and if so, gas prices wouldn't be as high as they are now. Any opinions? It is complicated!

If this war had happened in 2019 gas prices would have gone up just like now....if covid had never happened gas prices would have been $3 a gallon 2020 without a war etc. This idea that gas prices where lower under Trump and Biden has caused this surge is just bunk, the system had a massive upheaval with covid, oil prices actually got down to -36 a barrel....meaning it cost money to give it away. We are literally in uncharted territory as the world comes out of the covid pandemic. This is never going to get better, as long as fossil fuels are our primary source of energy we will always be at the mercy of global oil prices.
 
On the Ukraine front, here are the GOP members that voted against the oil ban and its the usual suspects of total idiots that somehow got elected....




Then Cawthorne says this this past weekend....these people are seriously delusional.....

This war wouldnt be happening had the current Administration not left Americans and those who helped us, along with millions of dollars of military equiptment sitting in Afghanastan. In a haste to evac all military in time for a 9/11 anniversary photo op ceremony. We turned our back , broke our word, protracted self centerdness and weakness to the whole world.

But Biden didn't say that just about all US inflation increases are due to Russia. That's what metwannabe in his first post about said that the WH said. Then met and others posted a clip from a WH NC and Press Sec just said that Russia added to inflation. If Biden had said that it was all due to Russia, I would have criticized him along with y'all. Biden saying we "can't do much right now" doesn't mean he's blaming all inflation on Russia.

This makes no sense considering Russia started moving equipment and troops near Ukraine border in early 2021 before the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Makes it worse. Knew it and sat idle. Not funneling in weapons. Instead went out ,increased oil purchases from Russia.
Worst of all had Russia go arbitrate a new deal with Iran. Had Iran boxed up and we go right back to doubeling up on disaster deal Biden an Kerry made over 5 years ago. Landing airplane full of free cash to a terroist state who has sleeper cells in our country

They promote the climate conducive to how America harvest its energy whether directly or indirectly. They bless it being purchased,just like they ban it.
I can post the quotes from Joe Bidden as recent as this 2020 campaign dishing fossil fuels along with his staff, cabinet. No secret they love seeing higher prices as in their mind it will discourage Gas powered cars, NG energy.

Energy is a national security issue. Always has been, always will be. Some folks cant grasp that simple concept and renewables dont solve that

I agree. But he asked how the NC congressmen could think that about ukraine govt. And a lot of folks know the laundering involving US politicians, including POTUS, with the aide of the Ukranian govt executed these deals.

President Joe Biden is trying to blame February's record-high inflation numbers on Russia — but a former Obama administration official is not having it.
Steven Rattner, a former counselor to the treasury secretary under President Barack Obama, called out Biden on Thursday for misleading the American people on the record high inflation rates seen in February.
"This is Biden's inflation and he needs to own it," Rattner tweeted after the president released a statement blaming Russia for rising prices.
Earlier, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a 7.9% increase in the consumer price index over the past year — representing a 40-year high inflation increase.

The spike late 2019 was partially contributed to OPEC Russia saturating market,trying to make it a negative investment for US companies to drill. Run off their competition.

Here are the numbers: the increase actually started in 2019, not 2018, which had small drop, but 2019's increase was quite large

During Trump, it actually dropped from 2016's 161 to 2018's 137. But during his last year, 2020, it was up to 198, or +37 vs 2016.

Then came 2021, another big increase.

Indeed, for oil and oil products imported from Russia, 2021 is a record high followed by 2011 and then 2010.

Yea didnt want to show 48 months. Again increase started with Opec,Russia flooding market to discourage US drilling,continued exploration. They where threatened
