March 2026 - Winter or Spring?

More insanity @Brent

Its getting harder and harder to defend. Yes I know its probably happened before(at least in Oklahoma) but that doesn't change the fact that besides one weekend in January this winter has shattered every record in the books from here to California for how unbelievably warm it's been

Well, Phoenix “only” hit 99 today lol.

100% absolute insanity:

I know the warm air in Central North Carolina is small potatoes compared to what's going on in the western 2/3rds of the United States but KRDU has a good chance of setting another record high temperature today. The record is 87 degrees and forecast highs will be knocking on the door before a cold front sweeps through tonight perhaps bringing some badly needed showers and thunderstorms. This is the sixth warmest March on record up to today's date.

Thread Title says March 2026 Winter or Spring - what about Summer?

Same for KCLT - forecast high is 88°

KCLT -85- 1950

We need some H2O badly here in Monroe

october just barely made it to average precip and that is our last month at KGSP that was not below normal
It looks like there is some hope on the GFS and Euro at 12Z. If this does not pan out and we go another few months like these last few we are in trouble. We may be looking at a repeat of 1986 here in the southeast if things do not change.

Yay, cold front made it through! Topped out at 81 today, but have cooled off to 68 with a frontal passage, heading for a low of 39.

We had wind gusts earlier this evening that created blowing pollen like I’ve never seen before. It was straight up nasty. Visibility tanked and my allergies flared up in minutes. Shocking.

My yellow truck and SUV are back to their normal black paint color again. I got .98 inches of much need rain last night at my house near Lake Wheeler just outside of Raleigh. The air outside feels much better with the arrival of the cold front. The air conditioner went on the fritz where I work in Cary yesterday and at one point it was 87 degrees in my upstairs office. I work a desk job and that was the only thing that prevented me from coming home soaked in perspiration.

Phoenix is headed to a full March mean that will miss the warmest April on record only by just over 1F! March of 2026 will end up warmer than all Aprils on record except one, April, 1980!! It will even be slightly warmer than the mean of all Mays since 1895 and fairly recent Mays like 2019, 2010, 2008, 1998, 1995, and 1994!!

Back down to spring today here from yesterday’s summery KSAV record tying high of 89. Today’s was only 69, which was just after midnight. It stayed in the 60s through the afternoon along with some clouds much of the day, breezy NE winds, and dewpoints mainly upper 30s to 40 making for a pleasant walk. It’s now down to 56. Tonight’s low is forecasted to be in the upper 40s.

So far this month, I’d classify it as follows:

Mar 1-9: spring
Mar 10-11: summer
Mar 12-16: spring
Mar 17-19: winter
Mar 20-22: spring
Mar 23: summer
Mar 24-26: spring
Mar 27: summer
Mar 28: spring

Forecast for Mar 29-31: spring

Easy winner this month is spring with summer way back in 2nd just ahead of winter’s measly 3 days.

It appears that KATL is headed for its 2nd warmest March on record, second only to 2012’s 64.5.

In stark contrast to the lower 48: Fairbanks is progged to have its coldest DJFM on record with it ~-13.1F!

The current coldest DJFM:

1965-6: -12.9F El Niño

1970-1: -11.6F La Niña

1933-4: -11.1F La Niña

1917-8: -10.6F La Niña

By a margin of 2F, they’re progged to have their coldest March on record at ~-8.6F!

I was driving through town and drove straight through a massive dust devil. What is spring anymore? 🌵
