Amazing how Sam went from one of the nicest looking cat 4's to the ugliest abomination of a cat 4 in just 12 hours. Not sure what happened whether it be a rough ERC, shear, or some other environmental change too extreme to maintain structure through.

Double whammy of ERC and dry air entrainment.....

Sam has been amazing to follow and a huge ACE generator! He looks on satellite loops like he may be getting a bit stronger yet again though satellite loops can be deceptive.

Copied from another board, this is impressive:

“Farewell Sam!

53.75 ACE
12.00 TS days
11.00 hurricane days
9.75 cat 2 days
7.75 major hurricane days
6.75 cat 4 days”

Also, from Klotzbach:

“Top 5 Atlantic ACE satellite era storms:

Ivan (2004)
Irma (2017)
Isabel (2003)
Inez (1966)
Sam (2021)”
