Interesting question for you guys. Have you ever moved to a new place, and realize the weather wasn't what you expected/small variables that create a totally new (sometimes poor) experience?

When we moved to Brevard to rent a place as we build in Cedar Mountain (15 minutes away). We are right along the Davidson river, lowest point of 2000 feet. (Our build will be over 3K)

What we've noticed is that dense fog 90% of the days and doesn't burn off until late on most. Fog just now burning off at 11am.
If we would have purchased the rental, NOT knowing the fog situation, that would be depressing :)
I didn’t realize that in Iowa , they don’t get a lot of big snows! I had visions of 12” snows once a week and the ground being covered all 4 winter months!! They only get small 3-6” events on the regular, and double digits totals are very rare! And I’ve only seen snowcover solidly on the ground for 1 total month, back in ‘22! So yes, some disappointment, I reckon, but knowing you’ll see snow on the ground every single winter, is a small win! And a horrible winter is still 20” of snow!

Being far from the oceans definitely has its disadvantages sometimes even here with the full potential. Most of the big snows up there are probably Lake Effect over towards Chicago and points east

Mack, You no longer sound like a southerner since you’re calling 3-6”, which you know are majors for us, “small”.

What about starting an election thread? Think everyone would be able to have rational discussions or would it breakdown into name calling chaos? I think the War thread has gone very well for the most part

Did you see Obama roast DT in GA tonite about DT getting mad about Obama’s Cheesecake Factory joke? He had me rolling! You don’t even have to be a good comedy writer because it’s already written, but Obama’s delivery is so good!

Lets see; Trump bad. Invincible Iran about to nuke the world at Israel's order, a bunch of politicians about to elected who will yap, look dumb and woot, I get to see the last Alabama senator elected in my lifetime. Yep, about covers it all, so no need for a thread.

It's interesting to think about like even here. I was thinking earlier how the "big storm" has been 6-8 now 3 times I've been here. Technically it was closer to a foot when I went to KC 2 years ago but even up there that was one of their top 5 storms ever and the airport only had 11

The record in Alabama is higher than that... Birmingham had 13 in 1993! So weird

But until I moved to Tulsa I had not seen over 4 inches since back then either. Dallas never had more than that once

Patrick Stewart has passed. :(

Walter Koenig, who played Ensign Chekov, passed earlier this week.

“What a heartbreaking week it has been,” William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the franchise, wrote on Instagram. “Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did.”

Can you imagine playing a captain in Star Trek following Kirk? And somehow, he actually forced the Trekkies to debate who was a better captain. That’s impressive in itself.

Also, he was born to play Professor X. No one could have done it better.

Not that amounts to much but I was in Matthews at Independence Harley taking a class today and it drizzled for about 10 min. Definitely unexpected.

Well… I’m not sure I’m “Southern” Wx anymore
You could make a case you’re in “South” Charleston? WV is southern culturally? I dunno man, I’m just thinkin out loud.

Be sure to post some snow pics this winter to remind us jokers in Raleigh what it looks like. 🤷‍♂️

Cool down getting pushed back, rain chances dying, this hobby is getting harder and harder to find enjoyable

I said 5 years ago it feels like our climate was swapped with the east central part of New South Wales Australia. Slightly exaggerating but the abrupt shift in spring 2021 just hasn't let go. Might as well burn down all the softwoods dying from drought and plant eucalypts at this point. Lots of them are cold tolerant enough.

I’ve lived with pretty much the same wx my whole life (GSP/RDU, not that different). I am interested to see how this compares here in WV
What's the gig man? Hope you get to see the biggest snow event you've seen and no more endless 90s from June through September

Welcome to the land of a thousand dustings and few big storms, but I'd still take it over what I have!! :D

I used to live in Hurricane, WV (about halfway between Charleston and Huntington) during the mid-2000s...so about 20 years ago. My father is actually literally from South Charleston, though, and my grandfather lived up on the hill in South Charleston (Spring Hill) until he died about 20 years ago. My grandmother still lives in Saint Albans.

I believe Charleston averages ~30" of snow per year still, but it is a frustrating way to get it sometimes, and it's frustrating since the mountains (even including Beckley) are under warnings for big snows constantly while it's just a dusting to an inch type stuff in the "lowlands". Also, the area deals with snow a lot better - 1" of snow doesn't really shut things down, even on those steep hills (although maybe that's changed in the last 20 years, LOL).
