Misc General Banter Thread

Maybe it will rain in January

At this point I just hope we get cold by then

This is ridiculous. I shouldn't be still turning the AC on

*Goes to look if we've ever torched 2 winters in a row*

It's funny the year we snowed close to Halloween is actually one of the warmest winters ever here go figure

Saw my first Joro spiders while camping at Coleman lake north of Heflin. Still don't have any here in Coosa County or nearby.

Interesting question for you guys. Have you ever moved to a new place, and realize the weather wasn't what you expected/small variables that create a totally new (sometimes poor) experience?

When we moved to Brevard to rent a place as we build in Cedar Mountain (15 minutes away). We are right along the Davidson river, lowest point of 2000 feet. (Our build will be over 3K)

What we've noticed is that dense fog 90% of the days and doesn't burn off until late on most. Fog just now burning off at 11am.
If we would have purchased the rental, NOT knowing the fog situation, that would be depressing :)

Well yeah I guess it's sort of true for me too. The whole winter/snow angle is totally different here from everywhere else I've lived

Growing up in Alabama and living in Dallas from 14-21 there were so many years it never snowed(5 of the 7 winters in Dallas no snow!) and yet here... It's expected. There aren't years it never snowed but it also feels like here there's so much hype leading up to it that by the time it actually happens you're like this is it? I guess that's sort of why my mood is so wanting to rant sometimes haha. It's just so weird how in Dallas I have no memory of some winters at all

When I moved from north Georgia to Florida I thought it would rain/ storm more. I was wrong, it’s always dry and it snows too much.

I’ve had the opposite effect. When I lived in Orlando the frequent storms exceeded my expectations. I loved it

Apparently they have a narrow strip of preferred climate. They also don’t compete with native orb weavers. They eat stink bugs too.

They really reminded me of the Yellow garden Spider except slightly bigger. They were mostly out of way of trails unlike the Spiked Orb Weavers which you know about quickly should one get down your shirt.

I had one of my writing spiders catch a big Joro and eat it. She wrapped it in silk with the legs still partially hanging out. The Joros do learn quick. I carry a machete on my tractor and they move up after me cutting them down just once.

Yep. Moving about 35 miles inland from the Atlantic was the worst thing I ever did. I expected the summer evenings to be nice when the seabreeze rolls through, but instead it goes from 90 to 85 and dew point goes from 70 to 80. At least further inland where I grew up the humidity didn't seem quite as bad in the evenings even though it was still hot. Not to mention everything is dripping wet every single morning from the dew.

I've been told it wasn't always this way and that rising water temperatures on the continental shelf have made it worse. Don't have much frame of reference from 20+ years ago.

Snow angels this winter.
