I can believe it considering we've also had some periods of absolute torches over the last couple months, like around Christmas. I was out on a boat on the lake in shorts and t-shirt on Christmas Day, after all.

Right? It was 87 degrees on Christmas

Im amazed we even have our average snowfall already after that haha

Even January had 4 days above 70 here which is ridiculous... It's just the flip was so big after that nobody remembers

It’s already starting. All of NC scored big in the last one. I love it. Just like in January 2000 everyone got 2 feet. Some people have never seen 20, 12 or even 10” and have lived within 35 miles of Raleigh for the past 40 years. Ask me how I know.
 
Just wanted to share something with you guys. I finally broke down and bought me an at home weather station. Been wanting one since I was 14 years old. I got it up just in time for this past storm. I bought the Ambient WS-5000. It’s currently mounted on a telephone pole next to my parent’s pond because I’m in a rental while we work on building out near them. If y'all have any suggestions on how I should mount it once I get my house built that would be awesome. Thinking about putting a 16 or 20 ft telephone pole in the yard somewhere because my lot is only going to be 100ft from wood line to wood line.

Yea I hope I don’t become a mid atl weenie and not get excited if models show a 2-4” the next few years lol. This one spoiled me I just know

Never had one. Been thinking about looking a Davis weather stations.

Imagine if there were only the blue area and it were surrounded by nothing. The blue area peeps would have been thrilled despite getting the same amount in both scenarios because 3-6” is typically a beautiful major snow in the SE. It’s interesting that how much snow surrounding areas got seems to have had more impact for some than what they see right in their backyard.

Your area will be paying penance going forward in the same way RDU is still paying for January 2000 and 2002, so I doubt you'll have that opportunity to get spoiled. 💀

EDIT: This is a joke, I don't mean this in a mean-spirited way, LOL.

Highly doubt it. It's more likely they go back-to-back and get an even bigger one next year than RDU get's a 6"+ event ever again.

I had legit given up on the idea of seeing snow fall in the general area ever again until my former coworker walked in the door and said "this is the heaviest snow I've ever seen in Augusta" early Jan last year.

I feel for the Raleigh folks in here but in general it's like we jumped in a time travel machine and went back to the early 2010's and that's even considering the fact that there was a lengthy warm stretch in this winter.

Idk if I'll ever be satisfied though, I think my personal next request has probably changed from a pure snow event to a Jan 2011 like event (which...also wasn't great for Raleigh, oops) for my intents and purposes. 3-4 inches of snow (though I had less then) and a little sleet/freezing rain to lock it in.

We often joke about how it's never going to snow again, but CLT has had a similar rough stretch and scored big. Raleigh is overdue for a big dog. Getting 2-3" from this last storm wouldn't have been bad at all if not for the fact that we were surrounded by 6"+ totals in all directions. At least everything was completely covered.

Hoping RDU finally gets a big dog eventually. Our climo is usually better than the Deep South, but we've just had some hard luck with recent storms. Too much suppression can absolutely be an issue for us. To get a RDU jackpot scenario, it would likely come at the expense of eastern NC getting rain (like January 2000).

This was the first storm that made me jealous of Roxboro. It was the last day of school before Winter Break (I was 11 at the time). At the time, I hadn't ever seen significant accumulating snow before Christmas (there was a minor event in November 2008 before Thanksgiving, but barely a dusting). It snowed for about an hour while I was still in schoool, and Wake County Schools closed an hour early. Immediately after that, we had cold rain. WRAL kept showing footage of the 6-7 inches in Roxboro and I got tired of seeing it. This was when I realized how painful following winter storms was going to be around here, as I was too young to remember the December 2000 event.

When looking back at history it’s pretty crazy to see how out of the ordinary the ‘73 snow was in Macon. Before then the record was 6.9 in 1914 and we typically only had 3 to 4 inch snow events max. You could go an entire lifetime in middle GA and never see more than 2-3 inches of snow. These past two winters have been amazing though 1.5 inches last year and 2.25 between the two this year. I can’t ask for much more but hope one time in my life I get to see a 6 inch snow around here.
