Misc General Banter Thread

I like to use the term biblical when describing fantasy runs. I never thought I would actually get to live through a biblical winter storm, but here we are. Unbelievable

New fear..

Moisture trends North. Areas to the South gets a dry slot. Lol

Little bit of a roller coaster reading through last night’s disco. One of the biggest and widespread winter storms of our lifetime is still on the table. I would think that the precip amounts will come down a little before game time. I’m not sure if we can avoid severe damage from ice, but I hope that the catastrophic impacts are mitigated.

Good luck everybody. Have a great day, and be prepared.

I don't know what to think! I'm at a loss of words for the foothills. I got really excited for the 2014 storm only to turn to sleet.

So it looks like where i’m at in Alabama close to the Tennessee state line the snow totals are not going to be significant but can anyone explain to me why extreme north alabama not seeing more snow than freezing rain

I swear, the consistency of the Euro of showing essentially a Defcon-1 type ice storm for most of Georgia since 12z Sunday is insane. If there’s no change by Thursday 0z or more of a sign of sleet mixing in, then 2/12/14 part 2, here we go 🤦‍♀️ .

The worst part about this is Helene weakened all the trees still standing in central GA. I know there are big branches on an oak tree right behind my house that are sagging, 1+ inch of ice and bye bye to them.

Knowing the drive very well, you're looking at 1"-5" on the ground based on the 00z Euro and GFS at 7pm when you land in Charlotte. That would be a very slow drive and maybe dicey with the wrong vehicle, It took me 2+ hours from Lexington back home last winter in an inch of snow that should have been less than 30 minutes.
Based on experience, these snows usually come quicker rather than later.
If you have a 4runner or jeep, go ahead.
Otherwise I would adjust accordingly based on current models.
Of course your mileage may vary.

Feel free to message me if you need help.
@Ward Cleaver

Thanks for your insight. I left my 4x4 Tundra in the garage at home and drove the front wheel drive Camry to CLT airport. Ugh. I think we’re going to have to really consider cutting this trip short one day and leaving Friday. I don’t want to get us in a precarious situation considering that we packed for the southern Caribbean instead of a foot of snow and possible single digit temps. I’ll probably make a decision by tomorrow.

ATL morning news mets starting to let everyone know about this weekend. Stores will be bare by Thursday PM.

Man, my sleep is really suffering. But, can’t complain. Incredible tracking.

Yeah, I may have gotten 5ish hours of sleep last night…maybe.

FWIW, Bam is currently thumping their chest on socials, which…I suppose they’re not wrong, but if the CAD depicted is correct, then it’s going to be a…I believe they call it a HECS on most of the eastern seaboard.

Every morning I wake up expecting everything to have crashed and this board to be in full meltdown mode because I never expected us to finally get the big one. Certainly not the case this morning, my GOODNESS these runs are insane.

I'm a wreck. Too old to run on low sleep now, lol. I was able to get a 3hr nap in yesterday after the 18z runs came out. And I got about 4 hours of sleep overnight.
I think I got less than that. With all these models, there’s always another one coming out every few hours with the staggered release.

I caution us all to take pause. We have seen this before and been devastated when the models flip. We cans still get blanked, anything can happen when we are still this far out.

Probably warm air aloft....any warm air above your head melts snow. Once it melts it's over it's something else

This is my white Whale …. Will it kill me? Possibly but these maps are like something I would’ve drawn on paper in middle school and gotten beat up for it.

Snow 12-18”
ICE - 1/2” - 3/4”
Sleet - 1-2”

Temps in the single digits ….. yea, ima take that. Idc about the destruction send it all to me I will take it for yall. I want to see chaos in the streets

Anyway we can get this to cut and be rain only now? The ice has me worried. Hoping we can lose the storm altogether

I’m not going to worry myself until Thursday morning if nothing changes. Not completely brushing off the ice but what’s depicted on the models is just not realistic. Yes it may very well suck but I highly doubt it’ll be anything like modeled which could bring down HV transmission lines and leave large areas of the rural south without power until March.

That said I’m absolutely picking up a spare portable indoor gas heater for the bathroom just in case. That tile gets cold.

To be blunt, rain is not looking for NC and most of SC due to the strength of CAD. Arctic high is continuing to trend stronger each run of model suites.

What?! 20!? Did you even fuel stabilizer it?

It gives me hope if you didn’t. Mine has been neglected for 2 years. Oops. Been busy. I was so scared it won’t, so I just got a new one (dual fuel and with inverter. Cuz I need clean power).

But the old one is a Honda, and it’ll at least run a space heater to keep the macaws warm. (Two tropical chickens in an ice storm nightmare here).

Hopefully this tells me I’ll just have two generators now.
My brother-in-law left it with us after they evacuated here in 05. I presume he had run it dry since the tank was empty, although at the time I wasn't sure if the gas had evaporated over the years or not. I put a little gas in, checked the oil, and three pulls later the old Honda fired right up!

So... really hoping sleet wins out over ZR. I just bought a house in extreme N Cobb, Acworth address. How do you even prep for an ice storm like this? Luckily we have a gas-started wood fireplace and a decent amount of firewood. I don't think you can run gas heat off a generator long-term.

With that being said, we've seen biblical ZR totals on model clown maps probably 5-10 times over the last decade and they almost never actually pan out.
