Misc General Banter Thread

Something I just thought about; since Jan 2022 (almost 4 years) AVL has only received a total of 2.1 inches of snowfall (let that sink in). That means that, not only has AVL seen about the least snowfall in the entire state of NC, but that most places around the SE have seen more, even if only from that coastal last year. That area from NEGA to GSP to West side of CLT to AVL (and adjoining foothills) has truly been in a very strange and localized screw zone for multiple years; even with other areas getting theirs. The orientation of storms and timing of cold have truly been wacky since that Jan 22 snow. This area is DUE.

who is ready for torchmas

If there's gonna be like no precip why not 😂

If I wanted cold all winter I'd live up north. I've been saying it never stays cold even here especially this early in the winter

The fact we've already been cold and had a little wintry precip is kind of crazy

I get being disappointed, but also its December 8th. Not too many of us would expect to see snow this time of the month anyhow.

That said since Thanksgiving day we've barely cracked 50 a few times. Working outside it's been awfully cold and dark. Even though it hasn't been bone chilling cold, everything just feels cold. Ground is ice cold. Ocean temps are running well below average in the shelf waters. Just feels like nature is settling in for a winter we'll be happy to be done with come February.

That's kinda why it sucks missing out, because these cold periods, no matter when they happen in the winter, are few and far between. They're hard to come by. So when they happen, and we miss a winter weather event it's a tough pill to swallow. The warm will return soon, it's just a matter of when. And then we wait again for a long time usually, but we'll see how this winter goes.

I agree CLT region is due. Congrats to Raleigh in getting a nice little event, now it's our turn. And no more for Virginia. That's right out. 🤣

Still more than two weeks till Christmas. I don't trust any forecast of it being warm. Here is the 6z AI euro; showing a big time CAD setup with precip just to the SE. Can't believe this as well but just shows us a lot is possible at this time.

6z euro AI dew points for ~midnight on the 23rd:

As much as I miss snowy Februarys, if I have to choose I’m picking January. Better climo, better sun angle, and it’s more aligned with my winter outlook. Guess we’ll see.

Yeah I can co-sign and say January was quite impressive to start this year. Two good wintry events within a couple weeks and the coldest in years (think 2018 is comparable, but until the final 5 days, it was pound for pound as impressive as 2014 was).

I do have to wonder if whether you can realistically get a mainly wet snow event south of North GA and the upstate anymore. Early January was close-ish if you made a few tweaks, but the most memorable events deep in the south have taken an extreme amount of cold after...I guess February 2011? As I really want to say that the snow event for January 2014 was dry in Augusta too, but I was not in the area.

While that’s definitely on the low side for them, Asheville proper doesn’t actually get all that much snow sitting in what amounts to a rain shadow.

We’ve had about 10 straight days of cloudy weather here. It was supposed to be sunny today but it’s another cloudy day. Maybe the low sun angle this time of year makes it hard for the clouds to clear ?

They are on the longest streak in history without 2 inches. GSP is on its longest stretch in history without and inch. Asheville averages 12 inches per year. GSP Airport 4.7 per year.

Ugh…. I’m back at the hospital again

Still having nasty palpitations but now they have moved from my heart to my stomach. 🙃

Ffs, can I just feel normal for a few days?
Goodness man, I sure hate you having to go through this. I've had them for years, so I know what it's like and how scary it can be. Have you worn a heart monitor yet? Hope you get feeling better real soon. Bad time of year for this, we need ya to guide us through these DARK WARM DAYS AHEAD... j/k ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Hate to hear it. I dealt with something similar back in September. Had a period of life stress that led to a pretty rough hypoglycemic episode (I’m a T1D) with heart palpitations which led to some gut issues and throbbing in the abdominal area. I was convinced I may have an aortic aneurism. Lost weight. This lasted 2-3 months. Labs were normal. Been a hell of a year

Yeah I went to the cardiologist yesterday and I’m wearing a heart monitor atm, I have to wear it for at least 2 weeks.

My heart feels a lot better tho, it’s just strange how my palpitations moved from my heart to my stomach on Friday and have steadily gotten worse at my belly

I've had those aggravating things since I was a teenager. Just wore a monitor about 3 years ago. The were premature atrial contractions. Although a lot have premature ventricular contractions too that feel the same. If you have a normal echocardiogram and a otherwise normal EKG they tell you just to ignore them. The burden has to be something like 20,000 per day for them to consider ablation. Which is like every 5 heartbeats having one. It's hard to ignore your heart flip flopping in your chest. But I know from experience anxiety makes them worse. Caffeine of course too. You may can try magnesium glycinate. I heard that and was skeptical but it actually helped me. Chances are it's nothing man and you'll be just fine

Banner elk be good place to chase this NW flow event? Looks to be pretty good event for somebody that’s snow starved

Hope you feel better soon, I’ve been sick since July myself. Seeing Neuromuscular specialist tomorrow at Baptist, hoping I don’t have ALS at 31 years old. Health is by far most important thing in life! Health issues have always caused severe anxiety for me.

Man that stinks. At least the heart monitor is collecting data. Hopefully, that will lead to something actionable. Praying for you man.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. It would be one thing if these people were issuing forecasts based off of the long range snow maps or 384 GFS runs. But they're not.

Average people that like weather enjoy seeing those things. If they're dumb enough to think they are real, then that's on them. Why do we have to always do everything to appease the lowest common denominator?

It feels a lot like people way back in the day raging against that bad old rock n roll music. It's pointless and silly.

I have that issue to, viral illnesses, fever, stress, anger, pretty much anything stimulating makes it worse, and it was bad a month ago when my blood pressure was high while doing long night shifts. I think the worst ever was when I took prednisone before and it was every second I had the flutter/skipping feeling, and then after I had Covid when it started. ---- is freaky as hell. Yet my EKGs come back normal, even with them

These last few winters here haven't helped the stress situation at all 🤣🤣🤣
