Misc General Banter Thread

Man.. Was getting excited Saturday with the trends for this upcoming weekend with my trip to the Smokies. Now we've lost the trough digs. Sucks.
Yep, now I'll be surprised if there's still any snow on the ground when we get to Blowing Rock. I was prepped for frigid air booo

Only we can blow phase 8 with a full blown torch lol

If this does fail maybe people will stop acting like the mjo is the end all be all of all weather.

No index is the end all be all. However, to claim as Bigedd09 is doing here that there’s a torch with this phase 8 is just plain wrong:

-Phase 8 started on Dec 3rd
-RDU has been MB Dec 3-7 with -8 anomaly
-The 0Z EPS has RDU at a -8 anomaly for Dec 8-17:

So, if this EPS verifies well, that would mean a MB Dec 3-17 (-8 anomaly) at RDU! Of the last 50 years, only 3 Dec 3-17 periods have been that cold (2002) or colder (2010 and 1989). So, 2025 is currently progged to be about tied with 2002 for the 3rd coldest of the last 50 years or 94 percentile cold at RDU for Dec 3-17th.

I do believe one of the issues CLT Metro - SC Upstate - Southern Foothills Triangle has, we HAVE TO HAVE a certain setup / Angle of onset ect. Sure Latitude ect plays a part …. My whole life this Mooresville/ Troutman / Catawba/ Mt Ulla area would cash in ANY CAD setup. I lived in Concord and grew up watching those kids get 6-8” while I got 3-5” ect they’d be out of school longer ect so something has changed. My point, as annoying as it is Greensboro / Durham / Richmond back to Lynchburg just have a better opportunity to score multiple ways so it seems they “luck” out more. I still remember my “Mawmaw” being mid Cig on the porch saying “Baby is it snowing in Texas and Atlanta or coming over the mountain?” If it’s coming over the mountain it’s not for you, if it’s snowing in ATL we might get a good one” and that was her forecast. Hell that and if her bones were hurting bc of arthritis those two WERE THE EE Rule lol I’m not sure there’s ANYTHING that’s a true teller in Southern Piedmont / Foothills anymore. Not whining just entertaining a thought. It’s essentially, to use sports…. We’re a team that’s gotta shoot 60% from 3 to pull an upset, triad - Richmond ect can have an off night and still pull it off most times

Kinda hard not to feel slighted once again. The country went from nearly a record low snow cover in mid Nov to now nearly a record high snow cover and some bonafide cold and many of us still have not been able to see anything. I think it was the year before last when our best set up was in Dec but the snow stayed west of the Apps and we never got another shot the rest of the winter. Of course that may not happen this year but it is hard not to be doubtful that we will see another extended period of below normal temps after a reset; especially with February being non existent for many over the past decade. If you have seen some snow; enjoy!

Well said and the same applies here

I’d love to see a nice warm-up the last week of December.

The golf clubs are getting dusty
Bruh I played fri,sat and sunday inches frigid mjo tundra below normal Oconee..we have a group with the first tee times all weekend no matter the weather. Hand warmers and cart heaters...it does suck playing with a lot of clothes on tho

I'm actually rooting for a warm up here so we can get back cold again around Christmas and New Year's when climo says it's the best time. Just not gonna sustain below average temps all winter...it rarely does. We've had a cooler than average start for sure as far as day time highs go but the lows haven't been pipe busting thankfully because it would be a waste.

That was Dec 2022 you speak of. The year it was single digits around Christmas. The pattern wasn't great then either except for cold. Kinda like now northern stream dominant and trough axis all wrong for us. Then 2023-2024 basically sucked for everyone. Then last year was great for everyone but us. Fact is we have the greatest departure from average in the whole country these last few years. How anyone in the upstate has any ounce of optimism left is kinda strange. I guess they think its just a matter of time before the laws of averages kick in and we make up for it. But so far this year the overall pattern thats plagued us forever with troughs too far east and no southern stream action is still in full force.

We back!

I told y'all to quit worrying. 😁

Sometimes I wish I wasn't staff so I could thumbs down all the snow posts and all of the winter cancel posts and really just certain posters
You can dislike all my snow post if it makes you fell better, not gonna hurt my feelings one bit.

--- us missing out on another snow is really pissing me off. My wife is tired of me complaining. I swear a gsp to cola to clt 2-4” snow would feel like a superstorm at this rate.
Too far south for blue northers, too far south-east for good wedges, too far east for cutters, too far north for coastals, too far west for noreasters, too far south-west for late bloomers, too far from the mountains for elevation snow, too close to the mountains for timely CAA. Am I missing any?

I get being disappointed, but also its December 8th. Not too many of us would expect to see snow this time of the month anyhow.

That said since Thanksgiving day we've barely cracked 50 a few times. Working outside it's been awfully cold and dark. Even though it hasn't been bone chilling cold, everything just feels cold. Ground is ice cold. Ocean temps are running well below average in the shelf waters. Just feels like nature is settling in for a winter we'll be happy to be done with come February.
