Misc General Banter Thread

It snowed a warning criteria snowfall here last February 20th. Same was true in 2020.

Was 83 here around this day last year and yet we still had more snow and the coldest temperatures of the entire winter

I mean I know our climate is a little better on snow but nobody is convincing me it's over

In 2018, RDU had one of its warmest Februaries on record, followed by a well BN March and April that featured four separate snow events. Two of them were measurable (March 12 and 24), and RDU airport also saw a trace of snow on April 8 - the latest snowfall in RDU in the 21st century. There was also periods of well AN temperatures in the week prior (and after) the February 27, 2004 big dog.

If we get to around March 10th with models showing nothing but SER and above normal temperatures, winter can be "canceled" then. But it's still too early, especially for areas farther NE

I will try to put something up this evening on some research I found on the MJO being buried in the null phase in this pattern.

Summary: it’s going to be very tough to get snow even in the mountains this January.

Always hoping something changes.

At this point living in Central North Carolina, I'll take any precipitation I can get whether it be rain or snow. The QPF forecast looks anemic other than some small events during the next ten days or so and we, along with most of the state, are getting behind the eight ball when it comes to precipitation. One of my friends who has well water like me, may have to drill a new well soon. The lakes and reservoirs are well below normal too. We need a long duration storm with copious amounts of precipitation to help us catch up on the rainfall deficit.

I have a friend who has lived in Montana since 2018. This winter is the least amount of snow they have had since living there.
Crazy how eastern vs western trough works. Everyone can’t win every winter. Unless we go full on North American trough which is pretty rare. Florida and Cuba setting record cold records typically won’t end well for our western neighbors. But we are due in the east. How many years running have we suffered through Seattle snow?

I want a poll for next winter season to see if we can get Virginia out of the SouthernWX site. Just doesn’t seem fair to watch that all the time.

What about Mack, the 2 Illinois posters, the ME poster, and the MT poster? They have the best climo!

See I disagree with you to me if gives me hope looking forward to what is coming down the pipe for me in NC. Maybe I’m crazy but I really appreciate all the updates from Ross and LukeBarrette and other VA friends

Yep, why not dry slot Raleigh from this direction too.

But seriously though, I like the VA posters. We need their analysis. Maybe they know their stuff cause they get more opportunities every year.

@LukeBarrette Keep posting the snow vids. Everybody on here would do the same if they lived in Roanoke! ⛄
Thanks man! So glad almost everyone has scored this winter!
