Pattern December, Make analogs relevant again

Well, the low not winding up off the coast of SC is a good thing, at least for us here.

Pretty much a board wide big snowstorm. Posted the map just a min ago. It was followed by it being way cold for few days. At least what I remember. I was 8 at the time.

We were kind of bummed that runs like 12Z & 18Z had the SW mess/SER keeping the SE from gettting cold even though we were hopeful for better runs ahead. Two nights ago, the 0Z GFS delivered the cold in a stunningly different run from prior runs. Many of us like myself were happy and smiling. Then the 6Z-18Z runs yesterday were back to SER/SW energy to some extent and took away our smiles.Then the magic suddenly returned with last night's 0Z GFS for the 2nd 0Z in a row! Well, unlike the two night ago 0Z being on an island, this time the 0Z was followed by more cold runs thank goodness! It looks to me like the SER/lingering SW US lingering energy problems are gone (I hope I'm not wrong) and we can now sit back, relax, and look forward to future runs with excitement rather than with worry. Don't forget that it is a rarity to see 1060-5 highs modeled run after run on all 3 major models, whether fake or not. I recommend folks take this rare opportunity for extraordinary excitement and just enjoy it as we don't know when we'll see runs like this again.

Larry, I love me some rarefied high pressure, but at what pressure will our heads explode?? I think that's what we all want to know! T

definitely been all over the place with my mood about the models, just have this nagging feeling it keeps getting pushed back

but a few days ago it wasn't going to rain tomorrow and now we're expecting 2 inches, most in months, so I'm hoping the same happens when it gets cold lol
 
The storm is on the Canadian. Well. "A storm". along with a silly 1070mb high again.

I'm remembering a recent torch winter where it still managed a 17 for a low one night down here. I always say it gets cold enough for frozen water every winter, no matter how mild, but it's doesn't always precipitate. You've got to have rain and timing, as it will always get cold enough at least a night or two each winter :)
 
If anything, the GFS and CMC scream ZR/IP in south central Alabama, doesn't show it on the maps but if things did set up to get wintry precip, that would be the type.

What do you mean "without adding your global warming agenda..."? What agenda does webber have other than pointing out the interesting weather fact about this year's much higher than average temperatures across the nation despite this cool December.
 
Don, I do credit you for trying to haul in another storm since you called earlier in December...but with the look at 500 and the -EPO event beginning right then it might not really get started with that one...

The 0z GFS is fooling you, don't fall for the timing of that winter system. That winter storm system was suppose to start on 25th/26th into the 27th for the Carolina's. Timing issues! what? Look at H5 it does not support a big storm around christmas . It does the middle of next week into the end of next week but not around christmas . It’s not a timing issue it’s a 500mb setup issue .
