Pattern August is the worst month of the year and it's not even close thread

NBM (and guidance in general) has been oddly too warm the last few days around here. Off by 2-4F on D1 maxTs. MCS debris I suppose.

I’m in middle of a severe thunderstorm in W Chatham county

Holy sheeee

Edit: After an official airport high of an awful 97, I was on the road in the middle of a full-fledged severe thunderstorm as per the above in the SW SAV metro area along and near US-17 and GA 204 ~6-6:15PM. It was about the most ferocious storm I’ve experienced so far this summer with high winds, some of the worst CTG lightning I’ve seen this summer, and blinding torrential rain. It was a doozy with Ma Nature showing off her wild side. There were some fallen trees nearby per reports.

When I got home it was raining heavily though nothing like what I saw earlier. My home also had a popup earlier. Total rainfall today was >1”, which was very nice to see!

Edit: I ended up with ~1.05” on 8/13. This brings my MTD to an AN 4.55” through 8/15.

Maybe some decade we'll be below normal. If it wasn't for Monday this would probably be a truly historic stretch that hasn't been broken since the 1930s. 22 days in a row apparently. Something has to give with this pattern soon Screenshot_20260814-072003.AccuWeather.png

Here's the latest drought monitor map for North Carolina. Conditions have improved but almost everyone could use more rain and there is one spot in western Brunswick County that is still in the exceptional category on this map.

I agree with this. For MBY anyway, throughout my 40 years living in the CLT area, dry periods always include wet periods afterward and it generally balances out. It affects some more than others for sure, i.e. farmers, etc., but drought to me just doesn't effect everyday living very much in MBY.

Yeah for my back yard, the drought is basically gone. Generally in our state it just seems to go back and forth, wet and dry, and the dance continues IMO. Next up I think we go the other way for a while, and we get more rain that we can handle this fall/winter with the strong nino. What do they say about NC weather? You don't like it, just wait a few days and it'll be different.

Models are certainly trending towards a wetter 7-10 day. This 12z gfs would probably erase a category from the drought monitor. You don't make them much better for this area than west atlantic ridge, heat ridge over TX and a baggy trough in the middle

Just got home from the office - and what a nice treat, were having a thunderstorm :)

Moving around downtown Charlotte today was miserable - you could feel all the asphalt, brick pavers and concrete buildings radiate the heat today.

Before that storm arrived here about 15 minutes ago, it 97 with a dewpoint of 80. This thunderstorm and downpour is very much appreciated

I bet I've had rain 95% of the days since our flash drought even if it is just a little. Seems like every day a storm rolls through about lunch.
