Wintry 3/10-13 Winter Weather

Thinking about booking Friday Saturday night in Maggie valley. To see some march snow thoughts?

Yeah I’m probably gonna look really stupid but as of right now. When I get off work 330pm Friday guess I’ll load the boys up go to Maggie valley stay till Sunday. Grasping at straws but hopeful for some snow. I just booked it

Maggie valley usually does better then Cherokee for some reason. Gatlinburg probably ideal spot but it be after dark getting there. For now I’m staying at Maggie subject to change.

Memphis is keeping expectations low with the current afternoon package:

Friday and Saturday...A strong cold front will push through the
region Friday. The front is moving a bit slower on recent model
runs allowing temps to pop up on Friday before the cold air
rushes in. More recent runs holding back some upper level energy
over the SW US that ejects eastward as the front moves through the
Mid-South. As a result models are developing a surface low over
the SE US and a significant amount of post frontal QPF across the
Mid-South. There is some concern that some of this post-frontal
precipitation could be in the form of snow. Ensembles are showing
at least some snow Friday night across much of the area. Naturally
this bears watching. For now going with a mix of rain/snow Friday
night. A more certain aspect of this system will be the very cold
air that will advect in late Friday night through Saturday night.
Lows will be in the 20s both nights with highs mainly in the 30s
on Saturday.
 
I’m going to be in Asheville this weekend can the storm still shift east a bit to give us some snow?

It’s still early in the game. Few shifts are possible. This thing is so dynamic I think areas of the mountains could be 50s and rain to 30s and snow in a couple hours time

It's a lot farther away, but Beach Mountain and Banner Elk will probably both do very nice with this system. You probably need to be above 4000 feet to do good in Swain, Jackson or Haywood counties with this. Not sure what elevation Maggie Valley is.

3,050 ft are so is Maggie valleys elevation

Depends on what you think doing well is to. I could see a fairly large area of western NC be in dusting to 2 inch range. While 4000ft and above gets into 3-6 range.

I realize it is March 8th, but I am surprised there is not more chatter about this threat. Some of us have not had this much ensemble support at this range all winter. I am not overly optimistic, but I am not discounting seeing some flakes fall either.
