I found an article that said it's only 30% effective overall, and only 10% effective against the most common strain.
the dominant strain of flu this year is a fast mutating strain. It changed a little bit from when they develop the antivirus. It takes a while for them to mass-produce an anti-virus. That's why the shot is not so effective this year.

Yep it also doesn’t mutate as a singularity, the same strand will mutate into different H3N2 mutations so basically the vaccine has an H3N2 component in it, but it was only effective against he “stump” of a tree. The mutations look like branches off the stump, to which we have no defense. The flu shot however can still drop the risk by 30% and also lessen the severity of the flu so I’d still recommend getting it.

I'm sorry, but I find it absolutely ridiculous to want to move to another location simply because they have very long winters that feature astronomical amounts of snow. While I wouldn't mind living in a place like Tennessee that actually has snow on a yearly basis, moving to a place like Maine/Vermont would be a culture shock for virtually anyone from the South. If someone is that desperate to see snow falling, go skiing in Colorado during the winter or take a trip to Erie, PA.

I like to pop in on the banter thread every now and then to see who still needs snow! Man! We need a 73' redux asap!
I absolutely think that we will see a Feb 1973/1899 storm within the next twenty years. From a climatological standpoint, we are getting to the point of where we are due for such a system to occur again.

Based off some of the various modeling and the signs of gulf development with favorable tracks, I think we aren't far off at all. Not just this year's modeling, but 2014 was quite an example of what could have been 73 if it were colder. I am seeing some signs of 2014 (HM even spoke about this earlier) and things are definitely about to pickup around the Gulf.

-NAO would be nice, and it may not be this year; but somethings going to give eventually for interior GA/SC/AL

So I greeted 40 this morning like this:

Feb 2014 happens again and I'm moving before I have plans too. What I saw from that storm and heard from a friend and family was just ugly.

RIP Joel Taylor, another storm chaser gone way too early
Very sad. Died suddenly at age 38. Can't imagine what would cause someone who appears to be in good shape to die suddenly at that age.

Edit: TMZ says he died of a suspected overdose while on a cruise ship.

Had a friend that died at 35 from a pulmonary embolism. Developed a blood clot caused by his recent amount of air travel. Completely healthy in every way...it was crazy. Sometimes bad things just happen.

My niece died of a pulmonary embolism last March at 21. She was born with a defect in one of her legs where her veins were not formed properly and were all twisted up. She had to deal with the possibility of blood clots all her life. She went to see specialists in Ohio when she was a baby, but nothing could really be done about it except take blood thinner. She was at my mom and dad's with her boyfriend, and they were walking out to the car to go out to dinner with them when she collapsed. She came to and then her heart stopped in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and they could never revive her.
