I think it comes down to expectations. People expect it to snow every year. Honestly social media has fed that more than anything. I like to see everyone’s opinions as it makes this board better but damn there are some interesting posts. Lol

What is this snow you speak of?

I think we forget how low the avg snow fall totals are some of our areas. ATL avg is a little over 1in. So I couldn’t complain so much.

KATL averages 2.9", which I guess is just over an inch from someone from the north, but significantly more than 0" in the south. The northern burbs would probably average 4-5" if records were kept.

Yea I was guessing, 2.9 is actually higher then I would think.

It seems like places that average north of 3" generally see at least a trace of snowfall every year. Others that receive less it seems get snow once or twice every decade.

Y'all can thank our admins and some more patient level headed mods for such a laid back atmosphere here.... if it were up to me entirely I'd already have ticked off a number of posters, no I mean banned them, I swear it gets unbearable but I appreciate what these guys try to do to have a fun and light hearted atmosphere. I just wish everyone would respect that and keep some of the comments, banter, complaints, sarcasm, etc to a minimum.... help us help you. PLEASE and thank you

Honestly I'd take my chances on another El Nino winter for 19/20 unless it became strong. Chances aren't great either way for my area unless we successfully chase down a -NAO.

It kind of is just wait and see once the MJO reaches 7. On the large scale, I think that is definitely driving the pattern and as Webb and others have pointed out, the models are struggling mightily with that (the MJO) , so if they can't accurately model the driver of the pattern, they ain't going to handle the pattern progression correctly.
Why does our driver have to change every year?? It seems whichever one means less snow for the SE it takes over as the driver..... Lol

I just think that overall, cold and snow does more harm than good. If a mild winter means less people dying from slippery roads or freezing to death or shoveling snow, then i am all for it. I am not saying that snow and cold cant be fun, because it can. I am just trying to offer some perspective.
Think of all the kids in the south that are in their impressionable years. There’s nothing like waking up with snow on the ground. My interest and fascination with weather comes from those fond memories from my younger years. Warm snowless winter is not an option

Newnan's climate page on Wikipedia suggests the average snowfall on this side of town is 2".

But yes, in reality, those numbers show that most winters on average will be duds for a winter/snow lover

I doubt the northern Atl suburbs average 4-5". I dont think even Chattanooga averages more than 5" and i think Nashville only averages around 6".
