Well, I might be will popular when I do this. But the other mods and I can start moving the complaining that is taking place in the January forum in here or they can be deleted. I just don’t want the poster stuff that gets moved or deleted to start complaining to the main admin when we are just trying to clear up the forum for the actual good discussion. It does get agrivating at times when reading the complaining. But, I know how disappointment feels also. It is a fine line.

Let's take it to the moderating thread and see what the consensus is. When the good posters are feeling discouraged to post, we may need to take some action.

Apparently that's primarily all it's for right now (not a dig on you at all - the opposite actually). Until a legit threat develops I've resigned to not posting much, it just gets lost in the sea of despair.
I know the feeling. Please don't let the others discourage you from posting your thoughts. We may have to do a bit more moderating in that thread. We want to keep it fun, but the actual discussion and analysis of the weather should make up the majority of the posts in those threads.

So I found a woolly bear caterpillar today and it was totally black, do ya'll believe the legends about those caterpillars? Supposedly the more black they are the more severe winter the region will have, the more brown on the caterpillar the milder the winter. This dude/dudette was all black and on my front porch (Lawrenceville, GA), I don't necessarily want a severe winter but just want to see some snow!
I don’t know about that legend but the one that is most accurate up here is hearing thunder in winter will bring snow within the next 7 days. Almost always see snow here within a week of hearing thunder. Now that probably has more to do with the fact that a cold front is colliding with warm air causing a pattern change favorable for winter weather. The other thing I’ve noticed is that every single time I’ve spotted a cardinal in winter I always see snow within 7-10 days. I don’t know if there’s a legand to that but it’s something I’ve taken notice to over the 12 years I’ve lived here. I can’t think of one time I’ve seen one in winter that I didn’t receive snow sometime in the next 10 days. Of course I’m sure the further one lives north the more often these winter legends play out.

So have you seen any cardinals yet?

I saw 2 about 30 mins ago. Is that good or bad in terms of winter ?

I had a snake in my driveway a few days ago, baby rat snake I think. First time in my lifetime (all in NC) I have ever seen a snake out and about in late December. I wasn't the only one, a couple of my neighbors saw one too.

Rat snakes are good to have around, they scare off other snakes and pest, I’ve had one under my front porch for a few years, this past summer I heard something banging around in my downspout, I walk out and saw my snake at the entrance, a few days later I went back out and Shook the downspout and a dead bird fell out, my guess is my snake was waiting it out and got bored and the bird just decided to die of hungry or thirst then to get eaten by my snake.

Im not remotely close to being as smart as some on this board . I’m wrong a lot , just ask ARCC who’s been holding my weather hand along the way for years . But good grief there have been some horrible Posts in the January thread that often times leave you wondering “ what the hell did I just read”
Some posts are not even remotely close to making any meteorological sense.

Looking for opinions -

At what point do we challenge their statements ? I mean we have all kinds of new people on the board that might read some of these posts and believe them

I don’t want to be ugly towards anyone but gracious

Yeah, I left it alone, it was in natural area around some bushes. I have a huge one underneath my front porch, atleast during warm months I do, I leave it alone too. It will come out and sun itself from time to time but any kind of commotion it heads underneath.

I say people should challenge, people back up there arguments, I think it's great. I post content that may not be that popular but it's backed by analogs, mjo, teleconnections....something. If I am wrong, and love to learn so if someone disagrees great.

I personally don't mind the playful banter, I think it's funny and lightens the mood. But, some people have trouble interpreting as playful banter so I get how that could clog up the thread. If someone posts...'it's never going to snow again, I will get blooms before I get snow' in the Jan thread then I would think most don't take that seriously.

Well just heard thunder and saw lighting.
If the ole rise tell is true about lighting/thunder during winter. We should have a winter storm threat next week.

I'm just glad my first posts are in weather forum graveyard never to be unearthed.

Is the SER misbehaving again ? Seems like the cold air in the Southern Plains is not making much progression eastward the next few days !
