The swath of snow hasn't been moving a whole lot all day/tonight. In addition, there are some embedded moderate/heavy bands training over the same general area. I would assume that's one of the main reasons for it. We'll have to see how that translates downstream if at all.

EDIT: Forgot the high snow ratios, some areas are 20:1 snow ratios.
 
Words of advice: if you sign up to follow a thread be prepared for the consequences lol. I was out to dinner and my pocket felt like it had a vibrator in it from all the updates on the snow lmfaooo. I had over 250 notifications alone lmao.

It will not. The line will dry up as it leaves MS and enters AL. The HRRR is showing this consistently. There will be nothing left by the time it reaches GA. Atlanta will not see snow from this according to the HRRR. This is a really, really good model, so I wouldn't get your hopes up in Atlanta. Glenn Burns will be right this time, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately I have a huge all day meeting in Raleigh today so hopefully on breaks I can look on here and see some good discussion with maps. Always liked the book with pictures better haha

I have a training this morning that's supposed to last 3 hours and it isn't even needed. I am going to have to sneak some looks on the phone.
 
Well we've got our dusting in HSV and on radar it's looking thinner. I will br happy just to have seen what flakes we got, but I'm ready for a nice winter storm again, it's been several years here now.

And I am aware that our annual average is only 2".

I see AL is under a Hard Freeze Warning for like the 20th time this winter. Funny how GA never has a Hard Freeze Warning. Maybe because GA is a colder state and used to it ? I'm not sure.

You wouldn't see a winter storm warning either unless there is a possibility of 4+ inches of snow. It's pretty crazy how busy the storm thread is for a dusting of snow. By dusting I mean anything less than 2".

I think there has to be 2" for there to be a Warning.

The only place where 4" for winter storm warning criteria makes sense in AL is with the HSV NWS. I think it's 2" for most everyone's.

Anyway, temps are more of an issue than precip for here and in South Carolina (not going to call out people smarter than me but I think the pops needs to get bumped up), it's going to be a race against the precip shield with the temps, hopefully 55 is the highest the temp reaches.
 
I lived in Columbia for 6 years, hottest place in the country bar none with the heat index. I would never expect snow there. There is only one setup to provide snow there, you have to have winds from the northeast, any other direction is warm, even northwest, and you have to have a low form far off in the Atlantic. This setup happens about once every five years.
 
Since the snow is going to start after 7 am I'm thinking about using pto tomorrow so I'm not stuck at work. Thoughts

Outside of the winter event this past December.... In the past 15 years, Columbia has had more snow than your current locale. What you mentioned is the BEST way for Columbia to receive snow. Not exactly the ONLY way.
