Misc General Banter Thread

RDU is already around five inches below normal as far as precipitation for 2026. There is a statewide burn ban in effect for all one hundred counties in North Carolina. It looks like the coming week gives us a few chances for rain (around 30% to 40%) which usually means scattered showers and thunderstorms at best. A soaking, multi day rain event is badly needed but that doesn't look like its in the cards through at least the near future.

We are coming off the wettest 6-8 year stretch in recorded weather history for much of the SE; it was just a matter time before we entered a dry pattern again. I would expect most of the ground water is fine. Maybe you guys on the drought doom train will get a bit of a break from grass cutting this year. It goes in cycles; you will be fine.

I'm hesitant to even attempt growing my vegetable garden this year with the future looking so gloomy as far as the lack of rainfall and intensifying drought conditions. I have to rely on nature to supply the majority of the water for my garden and it looks like nature is shut up tighter than a clam shell looking at long range patterns. Here's to a busy tropical season with plenty of storms that bring the rain without much wind.

I've been thinking the same thing. I have a large creek very near to the garden but hand watering is too much labor. I've been exploring ram pumps and I think I'm going to build one just to see if I can get the water over the bank to send it to a drip line.

The nearest creek to my garden is too far away to even thinking about using a pump. It has also slowed to almost a trickle due to the dry conditions.

It seems like the Southeast has not really had a ton of severe weather this spring. Or maybe I just haven't been paying attention.
Definitely.

For Gwinnett county, Georgia.
The total warning count for all modes of weather from 1/01/26 to 3/31/26 is 1.
The total warning count for all modes of weather from 1/01/25 to 3/31/25 is 9.
-- 6 of these were flood warnings, there were 3 separate severe thunderstorm warning events

This data was from IEM mesonet, here is a link to 2026 data. You may have to re select your county and play around.

We're definitely passing a lot of historic days already in Dixie/Alabama

Well see what happens the next few days here but it looks pretty linear to me

We had that one crazy day at the start of March but otherwise it's been uneventful this month. Of course we're not usually favored in March but then again neither is Upstate NY like tonight

Just more proof of how weird this winter and now spring has been here

This day can't get any worse...
They never picked up our trash, so we called and told them about it. GFL came here and picked it up.
Went out to get the trash receptacle and put it away, I heard loud obscenities towards an me coming from a Amazon Prime vehicle. Said ----, damn, and ----, and even called me a ------------.
So, I am on the line with Amazon right now. NEVER ordering from Amazon AGAIN!
