I've been looking at Greenville South Carolina to possibly move there... every time I check the weather in Greenville it's always warmer than Atlanta which is farther south... is it because the cold air does not get over the mountains as easily or because of downsloping? Just curious... I know during wedge scenarios Greenville is probably cooler than a lot of places..

It is and if you're a snow lover make sure you buy a house north of I85. Downtown Greenville and points north. They can get a ripping snowstorm while us folks down here in the golden strip area get rain with backend flurries. Downtown Greenville gets snow every year. Even in bad winters

Even if I had a paycheck at the moment, I'll just be honest, while I like following the weather, I don't like it enough to pay for full access to the Euro. This was disappointing.

agreed... I can usually get enough info from the maps on tidbits to get an idea

Thanks for the info...what is the golden strp?

It's an area just south of I 85 in Greenville, SC. A group of cities: Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, Mauldin. If you move here, and like snow, it's imperative that you locate North of I 85! Travelers Rest, Taylors, etc in Northern Greenville county, always score if it's borderline, seen it 1000 times, I'm raining in Simpsonville, and Travelers rest already 3-5" on the ground! :(

I've been MIA for a bit, I'm sure no one noticed or missed me.... Lol. Actually just about mentally/emotionally spent from work (I hear ya Brick going to work everyday sucks!) oh and I just got my light bill from last month sooooo while some cold and another snow would be great, I think I'd be fine if it didn't happen haha. Interesting little quick hitter possible Tuesday I see.... hmm

Just for what it's worth, not that it means much (and I'm not going to dig up my observation now, but I could later), but the ICON was several degrees too warm at one point at least observing here. It had me in the mid 40s during the main part of that good band outside of the main event in NC and well yeah...no. It very well may have been 9-10 degrees off. It was showing me at 45 degrees and that was not even close. I was at 35-36 during the event.

Did you not read the first part of my post? I agree, he, per usual, doesn't know how to hold a civil debate without wrongly accusing the other party of being inferior and wrong, even when he, in fact, is the wrong one.
I did read the first part. But did you not read mine? You can make a point without adding a dose of salt to each post.

We all make mistakes, I have made a bunch of late with this pattern and completely missed out on the MJO event that's happening now, I was likely way too warm on the winter thus far and yeah my concerns with mixing were way overdone with the last storm, see how hard that was? However, on the same token it did not easily snow at 40 degrees and Raleigh got awfully close to mixing with rain, those half dollar sized flakes late in the morning are a classic signature of riding just miles NW of the R-S line. You won't hear any complaints out of me about it, you just can't beat those super fat, wet aggregates. I'm very satisfied to see that Raleigh can still pull out storms like this and not get epically shafted. I'm still waiting on the one that drops a bullseye over the US 64 or US 1 corridor like we see on many occasions in La Ninas.

Folks, I am going to need some more snow here soon. Having to go to work every day this week sucks.
No kidding... I was telling people that at work today. Especially coming out of the holiday season as well when we had lots of time off.

Of course when I worked in both Raleigh and Winston-Salem (May 2010 through May 2017) the law firm I worked at NEVER closed for snow, no matter how much snow we got. They had a "snow team" that stayed in a hotel across the street from the main office in W-S so nothing would go wrong so the attorneys could work from home, which meant that the office was "open" (the staff was expected to come in or take a vacation day, which is what I did). Note that we had offices around the east coast, and the Atlanta office would close for snow, the DC office, etc., but all the NC offices stayed open every single time.

So far at a new firm in Atlanta, my office has closed for two days for a tropical storm and a day and half for snow.

Sorry for the rant - we need more snow!

Just figured out that the ICON is just wrong on my temps completely, pressed the analysis button and it had 40...nah man...it's 28 at the NWS station here (and 30 at the closest station to me). So it's wildly wrong on that.

Here it is (so nevermind on what I said)...

I think the ICON had it nailed down though on precip pretty early but it may have a warm bias that needs to be taken into account. After that run it seemed like it started to backpedal on it's temps.

I have no problem admitting I was wrong. But it does snow at 40F. Where did I say it would snow at 40F at RDU in that event? I didn't. You need to go back and read before you post something so pompously about how others are wrong.
I asked a question about whether it could snow at 40 degrees in the event and you said "easily", so you were wrong but you don't want to admit it.

Seen it snowing in springtime here in Asheville with temps in the middle 50's. Immediately started dropping but it can and will do it well above freezing.

Come on guys. Pretend that you are a teacher like me having to have a tough conversation with a parent. It’s all about TONE and TACT. Put on your sugary sweet filter for your posts, or take a break and cool off.
+10^10^1000. Can we just drop it you guys? Step away from the board for a bit. I'm sure you will feel much better.

1300m, I think your whole point all along was some of the models were too warm at the surface compared to what was going to happen with that system, not about it snowing at 40 even if it can.

Yeah, I think 1300 was saying it wasn't going to mix much at RDU with the last storm, should be mostly snow, not that it was going to be 40 degrees and snowing that time.

Like 3 year old day care in here! The ignore button is a great asset! :)

To hell with the hugs just get me a beer I've got to go sit through Disney on ice tonight

You should have at least held out for the Marvel Heroes in Ice! I saw it advertised on TV and is coming here soon. Seriously!

I guess some people have such large egos and just can't take being wrong on something even if they said it word for word or that it wasn't their general crux of the argument then they beat their chest and get extremely salty when challenged.

Thank you. And yes, this was precisely my point all along. I find it a bit hard to believe that Webber did not comprehend that.
I never disagreed that you weren't wrong did I? You're misrepresenting my stance on this. In fact you did good in general with this storm. On the other hand you can't hide from the fact you went over the top when you mentioned it could snow at 40 degrees here during that storm, and you hounded me, even threatening to call my professors just because I didn't agree with you on that one tiny detail in the storm.

It appears only you lacked the reading and comprehension skills to understand what I said. I'm not going to admit I thought it would be 40F at RDU - that is absolutely preposterous. In fact, I actually thought it would fall below 32F sooner than it did, just as Phil Badgett at NWS-RAH thought also. You honestly could not be further off base here. Just keep on bringing it up. I will never admit a lie. I told my other two colleagues at work what you said and they laughed because I have numerous texts to them also detailing how I thought guidance was too warm. I honestly don't think you actually believe that was what I was saying and are just trying to instigate something.
You just couldn't resist could you? I eventually caved to the colder solutions when I saw how warm the ICON was but you were no doubt in error in saying it would have snowed at 40 degrees in this setup. Look at the sites further SE even near the end of storm where the mid level temps fell like a rock, they didn't switch over to snow til the temp got to about 35 at the surface. You were correct but you overstepped your bounds.

Um, I don't think 1300 was saying it was going to snow at 40 the last storm. I think he said in general he has seen it snow at 40 before, and he also said he thought it would be colder than that and not have much mixing at RDU. I remember him saying that.

No. You misinterpreted what I said. I said IN GENERAL it can snow at 40F, I WAS NOT REFERRING TO THE 1/17/2018 STORM. Does the mountains of other posts where I claim guidance is too warm - guidance that was well-below 40F already - not prove that to you? Can you not get that through your brain? Did the neurons fire that time chief? Should I say it again? Should I say it in Spanish? What would help you understand?

Maybe if you weren't making an ass out of yourself that would help. You need a drink dude lol. Feel free to stop by my place haha I have plenty.
